    Gas in Jersey?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    1. Is it still full service only?
    2. What is the average highest octane? Can you find 93 or preferably 94?

    TIA

I don't want anyone filling my car up for me, so if answer to 1. is "yes", then I gotta remember to fill up at the PA/NJ line.

    Re: Gas in Jersey?

You can put 94 in a 93 octane chip and you can do it with 91 as well.

I know some Sunoco stations have Ultra, which I believe is 94. 93 is easier to find at most Exxon stations.

You can do that, but more then likely, you will pay alot more per gallon in PA, certainly on the PA/NJ border. There is a Sunoco on Rt 22 not far off Rt 78 in Lebanon, NJ, if you are coming from PA and want 94.

You can't do 91 on 93 file when your timing is bumped. Well, you can but I'm not fond of detonation. But you may have meant you can put 94 in on a 91 file.
I try to run 94 on my 93 file.
I don't mind paying more for gas in PA; I just don't trust someone I don't even know to pump gas in to my car.

Thanks for the replies and tips, all. See you at the show.

Well with your timing bumped no. But if you are running a PJ OTS chip you can run 91.

I haven't been able to find any Sunoco stations in NJ that carry 94. From what I remember, they stopped carrying it a little over a year ago. 93 is just about everywhere though.

    Re: Gas in Jersey?

There are a couple Sunocos in Philly that carry 94. You gotta really dig around because they usually only have one or two pumps that are dishing it out.

    Re: Gas in Jersey?

I commute from PA to NJ everyday.

The cost per gallon in NJ is 10 cents cheaper than PA. (not very special)

There are definitely still Sunoco stations selling Ultra 94. Not many but, still a few for sure. The rest of the Sunoco stations sell Ultra 93 instead. Expect to pay 10 cents over the 93 octane price for 94.

    Re: Gas in Jersey?

The sunoco's around me have only 93. It's still full service although I believe if you tell most guys here you don't want them pumping your gas, they'll let you do it yourself. Gas attendants almost never pump gas for anyone on a motorcycle around here. I think I've been paying about 4.29 a gallon for 93 but my ass is empty and will be filling up during my lunch break. I'll double check my numbers when I do that.

    Re: Gas in Jersey?

I got 93 octane from Hess during lunch. 415 a gallon. I think that's what exxon near my house has also. I think the sunoco I went to was a little pricier at the time but that's about what you are looking to spend I think. I think if you find a wawa gas station, you may pay a little less by a couple cents.

    Re: Gas in Jersey?

Paid 425 today but I live in a beach town so prices are a little jacked up because of tourist bs. definitely tell anyone working the pumps you want to pump your own. They are usually cool with it. Especially if they see you are driving a car as clean as yours. They don't wanna f' it up. I had a jackass overfill a past car of mine and I flipped on him. They don't wanna deal with that. You should be fine if you wanna pump yoiur own.

My 93 octane tune lets me run 89, 91, 92, and 93 octane. I just get fuel mileage and less power. I can't rev past 4500 on 89 oct either. I'll take the +4mpg on 89 octane as opposed to 93 octane.

Not a bad price at all. I'm paying around $4.60 for 93 here in CT.

I pump my own gas in NJ all the time. Sometimes they yell at me but most of the time they don't. I typically get out of the car and open up the gas cap. While I'm doing that I hand them my credit card and tell them what fuel I want (93 please). Then I'll either grab the nozzle or they will hand it to me. Depends on the person. The key is to act like you know what you are doing and be cool. I've been a complete a**hole and they don't like that. Therefore I've just started being cool about it and they don't seem to bother.

Why do I pump my own gas? I had a '93 Jeep Wrangler and the gas filler neck is really short and behind the license plate. I was filling up one day (on my way to the beach) and let the attendant do it. Well, the backpressure jolted the nozzle (like always) but the nozzle didn't let go. It was stuck on full blast and fell out of the Jeep. 5gallons of gas on my rear seat, amps, sub and clothes later I'm f'd for a day at the beach. They also tried to get me to pay for the gas all over my seat.

Ever since then I refuse to have someone other than myself pump my own gas. That was back in 2000.

Yeah I was at my cousin's wedding up in RI on the Mass border.. The further I drove north, the more expensive it got. Luckily I only had to fill up once when I got into Connecticut on my way home. The gas wasn't too bad considering I filled in central NJ, made it to RI, drove around up there for 3 days, and made it back to CT before I needed to fill again. But everyone from NJ in the family was complaining about the prices as we drove north.

The CT taxes are what is killing us at the pump. One of the highest prices in the country. NJ is one of the lowest.

Wow, I have been paying 4.08 for 93 the past two weeks. That's the only thing I like about south Jersey. I also commute from Jersey to Philly everyday and gas is about 25¢ higher not 10¢. I have bought gas in Philly 2 times in the last 2 years and one time I was forced to
