Has anyone gone into a conniption when they realized how much it was costing to fill up their V8 beast?

16.6 gallon tank * $4.31 per gallon (national average as of 6/28) = $71.55 (almost exactly what S-Fore said)

I've been sticking with 91 and still spending $80-$85. per fill. Not freaking over the cost as much as the frequency of visiting the gas station ... Wish I had a bigger tank as my city driving is getting me under 220 miles per tank (350 kms).

I just came back from Trinidad, and gas was $0.94 USD for leaded and $1.50 USD for premium. I was cool to see quite a few Audis there also, but every car from Audi to BMW's had downsized engines.

    Re: Fuel-ups

I just suck it up and pay the bill. The beast is wicked fast, make gorgeous noise and isn't my daily driver anyway. The Avant may be a snail, but it gets over 30 mpg on the highway if I keep it around 55 mph.

I do see the irony in all of this. Two sports cars that don't go anywhere much and a grandpa-mobile that racks up 90 miles a day at subsonic speeds.

Just out of curiosity. When you guys are measuring your mileages do drive the car until the light comes.
I usually get about 220 mile out of 3/4 of a tank give or take.

more accurate way (IMO) to measure MPG is
    1. reset the trip odometer to zero at the gas pump
    2. make sure to fully fill up the fuel tank
    3. drive as usual
    4. next time you need to fill up, check the trip odometer reading at the gas pump
    5. make sure to fully fill up the fuel tank
    6. check the gas amount reading
    7. (trip odometer reading in miles) / (gas amount in gallon) = your MPG

    hope this helps

    Re: Fuel-ups

I use the method that kooltechie described...I don't trust the electronic read out...it always gives higher MPG readouts than I'm actually getting.

    Additional suggestion:
You need to make sure you always fill your tank to the same level to use kooltechie's method. Therefore, I'd suggest holding the pump handle at the same angle, using the same gas station (and possibly the same pump?), and *not* filling past the first automatic shut off click. I've found this to be the best way to get a "true" MPG reading.
    Cheers,
    -Kurt

    Figured as much

But seriously, that's what it's like working in the Middle East. Small trade-off for the heat, but lots of nice driving places (though nothing as cool as the driving routes in the US)

OTOH, petrol prices from where I come from (Singapore) costs around USD1.65 per litre, which pretty much makes it the same as that you guys are paying in the US, and speed limits on the highway are 80-90km/h, with most places (90% of the country) set to 60 km/h :P

I pay about $500 a month in gas... which is as much as a payment on a new A4 isn't it?

16.6 gallons? are you serious? is this like an aftermarket gas tank mod or something???

the most i've ever filled up my B6 S4 is 15.0 gallons, and that's with my trip computer saying 5 miles left...

    am i missing something?

Fill it up when it says 0 miles left and you have driven it for an additional 15 to 20 miles after that.
