Should I do it??? Obviously pending a testdrive and a PPI, i think i might look into it (and an aftermarket warranty...)

i know the mileage is somewhat of an issue, but i honestly feel like this is falls into the class of cars you buy regardless of mileage, and truely do keep until the wheels fall off.

no, i would never buy an m5 with over 60k miles...121 is asking for problems...plus out of warranty. forget it! give me the $16,900 if youre gonna throw it away!

awesome cars, but I hear they can be maintenance whores. If it checks out I would get it.

    Re: E39 M5

Awesome car, but I would wait a bit if you reallz want to get a M5.

The price is pretty good, but is not amazing. At a dealer auction that car would never sell, even for 15K. The miles are aweful. Dont get me wrong, Ive seen a e39 M5 with 160K and it ran fine, but the maintenance cost to that point was near 10K...

IMO wait a while until the e39s from 2001-up drop in price a bit, then get one with about 80K miles. All this for about the same price of course.

Awesome car. But I wouldn't get an M5 with so many miles without warranty. I would keep looking.

    Re: E39 M5

I browsed an E39 M5 forum once a few months ago. Some of the numbers they threw around for estimated repair costs were ungodly...

    Re: E39 M5

If your going to do the maintenance yourself it may not be bad but you can get a better price especially with the way the economy is going. Big engine autos are dropping in price big time.

maintance is retared on a car like that when its high KM, i would try and find one with lower k. Not only that but the 2000 look like shit compaierd to the 01's (interiour + headlights and taillights) i have seen one here with 100Km on it for 20'gs on a 00

    Re: E39 M5

for one the 2000's like ^ said have shitty int. and tails+heads, but there were a lot of recalls on them engine wise, check out bimmerpost for info. And this is an M car, not a honda, you dont buy an M car with 121K miles your just asking for really expensive problems..really expensive problems, trust me I own an M3 and if it wasnt warrantied I wouldnt own it, its not worth the 5k repair bills every 6 months.

    Re: E39 M5

isn't there a supercharged 540i, or a v10 out there, maybe a 2001? i met a local guy with a stock 540i and the engine was pretty ridiculous. just go for something like that instead of the M5. with less miles it will still be cheaper.
