    Grrr Yet another problem.

So the other day I was driving home and my low oil light came on. This was maybe 500 miles after getting my car put back together from the bent valve incident. When i put the car back together I added 6.5 quarts of 0w40 Mobil1 full syn oil. So I pulled over checked my oil and the dipstick was almost dry. There was just a little bit on the end. Luckly I had a quart of oil in my trunk so I added that and made it back to my house (I was only about 2 miles away when this happened.) Once I got back I added another 1 1/2 quarts of oil to the engine. Now every time I hit the gas peddle hard at all I get a burning oil smell BUT not when I am just cruising. So now I have 2 questions,

    1. Where the heck did 2 1/2 quarts of oil go?
    2. What should I be looking for?

I am not burning oil out the back and I can't see any dripping on the ground (I have the bottom pan taken off also). Any ideas? I need to get this figured out.

check your tips on your exhaust for oil residue, check your coolant for oil. And check for leaks under the car.

Well do you still have your cats on? Did you take an other drive with the car after fulling the oil? When was the last time you check the oil before it hapened? ___\ Just to know when the trouble start up. Is it in the last week or after rebuilt? Did you hear any sounds from under hood? Did you take compression? Sorry i only have questions, no answer. I work for Cummins and there is a lot of possibilities of oil consumpion on those big engines. 2.7t is also. Most of the time is Ring failure; '' dustout, wear, breaked in half, workmanship''. Is it your case? You tell with compression gauge. Then, you have piston failure which combines cylinder wall; '' griped by heat, griped by material, cracked, workmanship''. Valve stem seal: Did you forgot one? Turbocharged engines usually have good valve seals to prevent boost/vacuum coming from intake pushing or sucking oil from there. Turbo is an other possibility. A worned bearing or thrust bearing in turbo will damage the seal, which is the last support. But you usually have a blown turbo at this point. They don't always fail the same way.
All that i've state above will make your engine drink oil. And all of them will create crankcase blow-by, which is really not good for the other engine components. Blow-by usually contaminates your oil with very small air bubles which make some metal to metal contact at some places. Cams, bearings and turbos don't like-it at all. It's too late now i'm going to bed. Tired of writing Good luck.

Wow, that is a lot of questions.

    1. Yes I still have cats
    2. Yes i did and it drove normal.
    3. The last time I checked it was right after the rebuild when I added the oil to the car. It had only been 500 miles so I didn't worry about checking the oil again yet.
    4. No weird sounds from the engine. It sounds the exact same as it did before the rebuild.
    5. Yes we did and it was good across all cylinders.
    6. And as for oil under the car. I did see a little bit of oil on the oil pan right near the back of it. I cleaned it off and will see if it comes back today.

There's a quick way to find a bad internal. Remove your oil filler cap, turn on your engine idle and put your hand on top of the filler hole. If you feel air pulse coming from there, You have a leaking cylinder. It's preaty tough to tell how hard the pulse has to be, concerning a failed cylinder. Only with experience you need to do that. Any way it'll give you a good idea. Did you check your crank case ventilation? Is your air filter clean? A pluged air filter could do that also ;ie. your engine would take his air in crankcase instead, But it normally gives you a low power.

once engines get old they burn a good amunt of oil but it shoulnt be as bad as yours. You should be seeing smoke from your exhaust or finding it in your coolant like greg said. What color is your coolant?

The coolant is still pink. No signs of oil. And also there is no smoke in the exhaust. But I am now seeing some leaking under the car. I just need to figure out where it's coming from now.

Ok, I figured out where it's coming from. The plug where you would put the crank locking tool in is leaking BAD! Thats why I don't see any in the driveway. It's up high enough that it only leaks when the engine is running. As soon as you stop the engine the oil settles and it doesn't leak out anymore. I think the O-ring is bad so I will pop that off here soon and take a look at it.
