Test Pipe Install Price and Time?

For those of you who paid to have this done, how much did you pay and how long did it take?

I had my ER tp installed today and they tried to charge me $500 because it took them over 5hrs to install (while I waited in a 10x10 room(boring)). I got pretty pissed after the quote and he ended up dropping it down to $300. This was complete bs, because even the directions said 1-2hr install time w/ a 2/5 difficulty rating.

cost me 80 bucks, and the test pipe i ordered was metric, but the new custom exhaust i had was standard, dude said it was a SERIOUS pain in the ass, so i dont know how the hell it took them five hours.

cost me $75 - ish at Induktion. IIRC. Car is actually going tomorrow to get it put back in, along with my timing belt service.

Taking the stock cat out and getting to the bottom 3 bolts is a complete pain in the ass. Its worth 500 bucks for the headache thats for sure!

$0, did it myself with my Velocity Motorsports TP. It took me 4 or 5 hours, but I was taking my time and only had my g/f helping me.

my local mechanic quoted me $160 to install my neuspeed exhaust and test pipe...


why did you not get a price before you let them do it? i would just report them for installing the piece

I kick myself. because I normally always do, but aside from them having a good rep on the car scene and the guy saying it would be no problem I though they would be done in at least 3hr. Worst case they should have just cut the bolts becasue I had new. I went into the shop about 3hrs in and it was kinda dark and the guy was using tools with no extensions or swivels. The tech even said it was kinda hard without the proper tools.

i did it myself but i had some long extensions and swivel head sockets to do it... i would tell him it your his fault he doesnt have a proper set of tools, and hence took him 5 hours... anyone with a half ass set of tools could do it in two hours, especially someone who works on this stuff day in and day out.... offer him the chance to refund part of your money or report him to the BBB

When i did mine took like 4 hours, the 3 bolts on the cat, i had to cut off, complete pain in the ass

ok, if you have the car high enough to get the downpipe out its not bad, but you usually dont, in which case it SUX

I soaked the bolts in RustBuster the night before, and had no problem getting them off the next morning. I just had my car up on jack stands, it's really not that hard. I just have a normal set of tools, with a few add-ons.

he clearly doesnt understand how to run a business... german car owners are usually quite loyal to their mechanics and pass the word on when they arent getting ripped off by them... my mechanic quoted my dad $300 for a full suspension swap on a benz, he had troubles though and it took him all day to do it but he didnt charge a penny more

Rusted bolts suck but the tech should not charge more because he doesn't know how to remove them. next time get a basic socket set and do it yourself. we all have been shafted once in our lives learn from it and buy a Bentley's manual. sorry it happened
