what inside the center of the spare tire well?

OK, I've managed to install about 190 sq ft of Dynamat, and I am looking for places to burn up the last kibbles.

INSIDE the center of the spare tire well (accessed through the big black plastic disc which is fixed with 3-10mm head acorn nuts from the bottom) there is some sort of component which has three hoses running to it


the plastic tanks under the car... are those BOTH the fuel tank/s?

it looks like it might be some sort of over-engineered charcoal canister, but I am not for certain, and I DON'T want to spray-foam the snot out of something that I might regret later.

surely someone knows what it is

There is the main tank, reserve tank and yes a charcoal canister... filters the gas vapors IIRC

I was wondering the same thing.

my reasoning is different. I want to cut out the hump and put in a battery tray, and make some sort of tool box to fit the remaining space.

Yeah, there's no way my spare is going back in for now. That aluminum jack is useless. I just carry around a can of re-inflate stuff. It would be nice to stash some stuff there.

the spare tire well is larger than most Tokyo apartments. And that "canister" (lucky guess alright!) could be replaced with something more sensible or eliminated.
My sub enclosure has already been built, tested, adjusted and refitted. Otherwise, I'd plant a pair of 10's or a single 15 in that giant crater.
I suppose I'll stick to my plans and use the well for something unheard of though.
you're not going to believe this! But I'm actually going to use it for a SPARE TIRE!
( 235/40/18 ps2 on Kosei 6 spoke which is what's on all 4 corners and weighs only 35.5 lbs ;) )
