    Next problem = clutch

Ok, so i finally drove the car home after a month in the garage getting built.

Yesterday at the mall the car decided not to go into gear. turn it off and back on agian goes into gear.

This morning it wouldn't go in at all. The gears go in and out with the car started. If you press the clutch, pick a gear and try ti start it, the car will lurch forward repedeatly.

What to check for, tried bleeding it to no avail, i'm thinking slave cyclinder i hope.

P.S. the trans was put in 3 months ago and shoed no sign of wear. I.E. grinding, clicking or clunking.

    Re: Next problem = clutch

Sounds like the clutch might be stuck to the flywheel or pressure plate. I would think if it was the slave you would notice a big difference in the clutch pedal.

Yeah but usually the throw out bearing will start making some noise when there is a problem with it.

    Re: Next problem = clutch

Check Sean1.8t's thread, he had the same problem and someone else posted saying how it can be forced loose.

BTW what clutch kit do you have in the car now?

    Re: Next problem = clutch

No matter what, your probably going to have to pull the trans. Unless its just a bad slave cylinder or bubbles in the system. Could be the pivot pin, stuck throwout bearing, stuck clutch disk to flywheel, bad springs in the pressure plate... I'm out of ideas, i'll be better help tomorrow hopefully

    Re: Next problem = clutch

Ok so how about this then...

get home today and need to get something out the car, hop in and figure, lets turn it on, see how it goes. Problem appears to have 'dissapeared' and the trans got smoother???

So, what do you guys think the problem is now? It's obviously not trans rleated otherwise, from my experince with blowing up trans (Quite a bit) it wouldn't go away all together.
So it's not clutch fork either right? Cause when that's broke, that's broke! Had that problem in my sister's old jetta.
SO it's gotta be either the clutch sticking to the fly, throwout bearing or something hydo related right?

Interesting situation, what will be the fix? Tune in next time...

    Re: Next problem = clutch

sounds like something got stuck together, clutch/pressure plate/flywheel, and just happen to break loose. I remeber reading a thread like this and the guys just broke free and was fine again.

Well we'll see i guess. Should i give the clutch a decent little caning tonight? nothing hard, but enough to scuff stuff upside?

    Re: Next problem = clutch

Sunds like the clutch disk was stuck to the flywheel or pressure plate and now it let go.

The splines on your input shaft might be filthy as hell but that would more likely become a problem in cold weather.

    thread bump

...I am having this problem with my new SB clutch, DB, how did this work out for you?

for me the problem is on and off, mostly fine, but sometimes it is just barley engaged for some reason, when the clutch pedal is depressed it wont go into gear unless I turn the car off, then when I go to turn it on it doesnt want to turn over b/c the engine is trying to move the wheels a little and it it too much pressure on the starter. will this work itself out?

Which flywheel. There have been a few people that have had this problem when installing a new SB clutch and lwfw. They ended up having to make the slave arm longer so that it pushed the pressure plate just a little more then it was so that the clutch would release.

Your clutch can work this out on its own as it wears, but not sure how long that would take.

I have also noticed this issue on cars with SB stage 4's when the clutch got hot after a few back to back runs at the track, the car would start creeping forward on its own while I was staged to make a run and the pedal was to the floor.

I wonder if that's the same problem I'm having; I'm having trouble getting into gear from neutral (see this thread) and occasionally out, but I thought it was due to changing the gear oil in the transmission at the same time?
I've tried changing the gear oil twice and now also with an additive and it hasn't helped.
What are my options if it is clutch related? Mike I've got the SB stg. 4 OFE and 16 lb flywheel I got from you and I've been mostly gentle on it (with a couple accidental drops) for about 2000 miles now.

    Re: Next problem = clutch

Be careful. After a long drive when your car is warm, this problem might arise again as it did to me. My flywheel got bigger and effed up my whole clutch.

I wonder what flywheel Sean1.8T has in his car since he also had the same issue with his SB stage 5. I have a SB stage 4 in my office right now and have a Spec Billet Steel flywheel on its way to me which will be here next week. Once I get it I will be able to stack them to take measurements, then talk with SB about this issue since more people are starting to have it.

    Re: Next problem = clutch

As far as my problems. it has sort of sorted itself out, however i'm 99% posative it's the slave cyclinder. However, after long drives it won't go into reverse untill the car sits for a little bit. It got better after we bleed it, it's a tough little ****** to bleed though.

I'm going to replace my slave cyclinder anyway, it's $39 on ECS so it's worth a shot
