    highway rash!

    Hey guys

The paint on my black 2004 A4 was NOT properly taken care of by the previous owner, which I figured out once the wax from the dealer wore off quickly.. anyways, they must have done some serious highway driving b/c there are small nicks in the paint on the front hood and bumper.

I just bought some scratch-x through meguiars and figured i would eventually get a porter cable to clay/wax the whole car soon.

Has anyone had success with scratch-x on small paint chips? Can someone recommend another alternative to scratch-x and a 3 level wax application? Just looking for some input.. thanks to all in advance!

sorry to break it to you but the rock chips are permanent. the only ways you can fix it is to either fill in the chips with touch up paint, sand it down, and buff it back with a rotary.

your other option is to get it repainted.

scratch-x wont do anything for rock chips. the point of scratch-x is use light abrasives to remove a little paint around a scratch to make it less visible. rock chips are too deep for any polish or compound to touch.

That's what I was afraid of.. I wonder if using a rotary would alleviate it a bit, as i might be able to really work in some heavy duty wax or polish. It isn't really noticeable until you get really close to the paint.

yes rotary and compound will help it but if you can see primer then you will have to remove a lot of clear coat and paint to make it a little better which is not worth doing.

if you own a rotary just use touch up and sand it. it will give you good results.
