Yakima Roof Rack Question...

Just installed my Yakima roof rack on the factory rails last night. I am a bit concerned about the clamps though. From the outside they wrap around the factory rail well, but the inside bracket only touches the very top inside edge of the factory rail. Is this normal? I am a bit worried about the rail getting dented in from the yakima clamps when they are snugged down....
Anyone know the answer to this? Also, it seems you have to open the clamps way up to get them off the rail, causing the crossbars to also be loose. I don't think I did anything wrong, just seeking feedback from those of you who have this rack.

If you have factory rails, you most likely have the Avant. Which clamps did you get? I believe the right clamps for factory rails are called Yakima Lowrider. Most on the Avant forum also like the Yakima over Thule or Audi rack. Check out this thread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136768

Lowriders are the correct clamps. Post some pictures of it installled and we can take a look. I also have a Yakima rack for our B7 Avant, so I can take and post some pictures of ours installed for you to compare.

I've installed both Thule and Yakima on avants (work at a ski shop). It's pretty hard to mess up and will not dent the rail. They don't need to be gorilla tight either. The only thing you'll want to do is wax under them once a season or so

kind of hard to see with the reflection, but I think it looks good
