    DSMIC install...HELP!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've gotten through most of the install of the factory DSMIC kit (the one from the Euro S-Line A4). Everything was OK up until the point where I needed to reconnect the vacuum line to the DV. Its like 12 inches too short!

Is there something I'm missing here? I've double and triple checked and everything is plumbed the way its supposed to, but I still don't have enough hose to reconnect the DV.

    Little help please!!!

Oh...and what would happen if I drove a short distance with no vacuum line attached to my DV?

    Re: DSMIC install...HELP!

if the vacuum line isnt hooked up to the diverter valve, the diaphram inside wont open the valve to get rid of the charge air, and if the diverter valve is not working that will lead to compressor surge.

If all you need is 12 inches if line...just go to the store and buy like a foot or so!

    Re: DSMIC install...HELP!

Did you replace the entire line or just add on to what was already there?

Its pretty lame that none of the writeups mention needing a longer vacuum line!

    Re: DSMIC install...HELP!

I didn't have to add a longer vac hose to my DV when installing the DSMIC. You might want to look at the vac hoses and may see about rerouting the lines since the position of the DV has changed. There should be plenty of length in the hose to hook the DV back up.

    Re: DSMIC install...HELP!

Either way I route the vac line, its still farther away from the DV than it was before. Not sure how yours fit...but its interesting that none of the kits mention needing a longer line. I'm stumped.

Unfortunately I can't drive the car to go get a longer line. I am not blessed with extra parts (appropriate for the task at hand) floating around my garage!

weird, mine was completely plug and play.
i do believe the kit came with a longer line as I the old DV/boost reserve tank sitting in my garage has a vac line attached to it. My guess is that your kit is probably just short one tube? Sorry, it's been 3 years since I installed mine so can't be of more help.

    Re: DSMIC install...HELP!

I ended up extending the line with some fuel line and a coupler. Done!

None of the writeups I've seen mention extending the vacuum line. I'd call that a vital piece of information!

One more note on my install. I found that by removing the pipe fitting at the top of the intercooler (four torx screws, T30?) it made mounting of the intercooler a LOT easier.

Working with factory parts was a real treat. Everything fit just liek it should (except the short vacuum line of course).

    Cheers,
