Need to replace my battery ground cable. I don't have the code to get the radio out of SAFE mode. Any suggestions short of $$$ to the dealer?

cant you just use a jumper cable to maintain the connection while changing it? don't stand in a puddle :p

I'm in the same situation now. There might be a member or two around here that works at the dealer that could help you. You'll need the radio keys to get the AUZ number. Dealers charge anywhere from $60 to $120 to do it. I wish the VAGCOM could pull it off :(. My radio code card was cut out of the manual (I bought used). I'm thinking of going all custom carpc setup now.

Yea same thing here- code card is missing. The jumper cable thing seems risky. I found someone on Vortex that might be able to get the no. for me. I need to get din to pull it out.

i just called the dealership the other day about getting a radio code

he didnt mention $$, but i didnt ask

he did say that i need the car/radio there because they recently changed policy and they need to plug something in before they can give out the code

I tried to get my radio code from the local stealership before. They wanted $110 and insisted that there is no possible way to get it without hooking up the car to a computer. That's complete BS because I was able to get it from a generous AZ member over the internet. They need to do away with this greedy BS policy.

Has anyone ever tried that jumper cable trick? Unless you have 4 total posts on the battery I don't think it'd work.

i would just recommend going to the stealership they quoted me $60 but when they finished they wound up only charging me $20. Oh and it helps if my mention you might be looking at trading up to a new audi and then go look at them while they fix yours.

I had the same problem, disconected the battery and radio went into safe mode. Of course the card with the number on it was not in the owners manual any more. I just drove to the dealer and the took down my vid # and pulled the radio out to get the code on the back. 5 min later they had the code for me. Didnt cost me a thing. Funny how some of you are getting charged for this.

theres a little thing you can buy at autozone or any other major car parts place. you plug it into your cigarette lighter and it connects to a 9v battery so that it keeps the code and time on all your gauges and such. its like 3 bucks
