Question *What c/o is right for me??*

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What is the perfect coilover for me?

-I am looking for an entry level c/o
    -something around $1,000
-something that rides comfortably (for the amount that I'll actually be tracking the car its not worth a harsh ride when Im not tracking it...)
-height and dampening adjustability, but the dampening isn't 100% neccessary

from what I've read H&R are too stiff for me, vmaxx suck, Koni is a possibility, as is Stasis and maybe K1's?

    TIA guys.

oh, please feel free NOT to chime in with false information, first hand experiences only, no hear-say and second hand opinions!!!

I love my H&R's. I dont track my car, I dont even drive really hard.

They go lower then I dare to go, and they ride at a level I expect out of a coilover.

I dont regret my purchase at all.

have you had otehr suspension setups in your car to compare them too? Im worried about them being too stiff for daily driving.

I have the GT which is stiffer then the normal setup. I like mine a lot ride isnt harsher then stock sport and it handles really well. I havent tracked hte car yet but its really good in the twisty back roads.

I have only had stock sports in the Audi, which were wayyyyyy too soft for me.

I have though have experienced with FK coilovers in my old MK3 if you'd like to know about FK? The entry level FK AK coils were horrible ( so soft, I hated driving it for long period of time, as I bounced down the road). They are comparible to VmAXX, although I have never ran Vmaxx, I "heard" they were very very similar.

Another note, I have a local friend with Koni coils on his MK4, I drive in the car almost daily, and I, as well as the owner of the mk4 prefer the ride of my H&R's over his Koni's....As his konis are really soft, and when maxed out are really bouncy. But again, It could be different design for the A4 B5, as PPL with konis seem to enjoy the ride of them on the B5 forum.

I adored the H&Rs I had on my B5. They are my 2nd favorite coilover setup so far, STaSIS being the first (that'd be the Track Sports).

Koni, Stasis(Tuned Koni's), Vogtland, KW, ... Bilstiens with coils...
Koni and the Stasis tuned Koni's almost always get good reviews, esp the Stasis.

^Hate them!! MY buddy has them on his 02 GTI that ive drove for awhile and they are super bouncy and dont handle good. Part of that is probably because they are set so low.

On the other hand both me and my buddy like my konis, turned down pretty far(almost all the way in rear) and i rarely get bounce. Very comfortable day to day coilover and not too soft. FWIW i got my Koni's for 850 new

Re: *What c/o is right for me??*

Im thinking its between Stasis SS and Vogtland GT...possibly V1's, but I havent heard a lot about them on B5's

    vmaxx are too shitty
H&R I have a feeling will be too stiff
    Koni's are just un-valved Stasis
havent heard enough reviews of Eibach

Re: *What c/o is right for me??*

I know a couple people that have used V1's and been real happy with them.

Basically if you're considering the Koni's, just spend the extra $100 and go with the Stasis tuned set. The street sports are "European tuned". Apparently you can buy Koni's that have the same valving as the Stasis, but it's not available in the US, so Stasis does it for them. That's what I heard at least, so don't quote me on that one.

Re: *What c/o is right for me??*

Based on your criteria, I'd suggest our KONI Coilovers, or H&R Coilovers.
They're both very comfortable and tuned for daily street driving.

There's no difference in "tuning" between the KONI and Stasis SS coilovers. The shocks are identical in everyway.

Our Vogtland coilovers are VERY popular on the B5. They are an aggressive coilover with relatively high rates. They'll ride more firm than both of the kits above I'd recommend instead. They're fantastically smooth and comfortable, but probably more performance than it sounds like you're looking for.

Feel free to email us if you have any questions.

I just installed my Eibach Pro St's and so far I love them not too soft and not too stiff. I drive my car daily and so far no complaints, try check with Eibach and see if they are still on sale. Got mine for $900 shipped.

    Interesting.

I like my SS's a lot and obtained them new last year, for a great price. They were within $50 or so of the comparable 'plain' Koni kit, so for what the STaSIS SS's offer, I thought it to be a good value over a "un-tuned" kit.

Considering the STaSIS kit comes "tuned", preset, adjusted for a B5 Audi A4, and the fact that these and most shocks cannot be adjusted ON the car, I GREATLY appreciated having some experienced knowledge applied to this kit, as basic as it may be, before I got it. I would not have enjoyed figuring out much of that on my own, removing wheels and half tearing down the suspension to adjust it, test drive it and ask myself repeatedly, "is this it?.... is this it?"

Here are some other bits of feedback I have read.... if you search, you'll find the same/similar comparo's/comments. Lots of people who have SS's saying they love 'em and lots of people commenting they're no different and some say "a waste of $$".

Come on guys, use the search feature. The Stasis are the same as the Konis, except: they provide nylon spring seat washers for easier (but not much) height adjustability, and they dyno tune the shocks to a very streetable rebound setting to match the springs. Hence, they ride much better than the Konis out of the box. I'd say the extra service they do on them is worth it. Don't skimp ride for price if you use your ride primarily as a daily driver. You can find SS for $900 or less, even cheaper if they're used and have low miles.
    and

You pay a higher price for...

    STāSIS Warranty
    STāSIS Customer Support
    Preset Rebound Damping by STāSIS
    Preset Spring Height by STāSIS
    STāSIS High Density Perch Bearings

This is had for about $50-$100 more then the Koni kit.
