    RIP Windshield Wipers?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It was raining today when I left my house so I turned on my windshield wipers. When I turned them on (even on the highest setting) they barely moved at all. After about 5 mins of driving, they stopped completely in the middle of the windshield.

Any idea what could cause the wipers to do this?

    Re: RIP Windshield Wipers?

It's not the motor. It's the linkage, shit really likes to seize. Although if you force it, the motor might burn as well... I took mine out and fixed it, for 5$ in parts... The dealer wanted to replace the whole linkage for like 700$ I posted a diagram in this thread, this might be your problem:

    Re: RIP Windshield Wipers?

Sounds like the wiper bracket (transmission, not motor) is seized. Mine did the same one day last Winter. The part is about $250 and you can DIY. There are write-ups however to clean the part and lube it up to make it work like new again. I think the write-ups are on AW.

    Re: RIP Windshield Wipers?

I started working this morning and removed the whole wiper assembly. The problem was in the linkage, where one of the joints had seized (as posted above in the DIY's). As I was trying to get the part loose to grease it, the assembly broke .

Now I'm going to have to replace the whole assembly. Any idea where I could buy the part? Or am I going to have to go to a dealership?
