    I just cleaned the throttle body and can't get the car to idle

    there was a lot of gunk in there and i cleaned it out

    played with the idle rod didn't do anything along with throttle body adaption

    any other suggestions

    there might be a little build up of the cleaner spray, just run it and see if it clears up

    i'll drive it around and see how things go - the idle right now is at 1 and a tad bit higher.

    I had the same thing, it had a surging idle, and eventually settles out if you load the alternator (heated seats, lights, fogs, fan on high), but if you stab the throttle it goes back into a rhythmic surge, really annoying. The only way I got it fixed was to get VAG-Com and do a Throttle Body Adjustment calibration.

    Just thought I would throw it out there for future searchers.

    Make sure you used the proper cleaner. MAF cleaner is NOT the same as TB cleaner which is diff. from Carb cleaner.

    They should ONLY be used on their specified part. Failing to do so will destroy MAF/ TB sensors.
