    2000 A6 2.7T. I need a better wheel. Help!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,
I know this is my first post and I should really say Hi and all but I'm in a dilemma right now. My A6 has the stock 16 inch wheel and I'm running on Blizzacks right now. They're wearing away very fast and I want something better. I have 2 1100 mile (round trip) trips coming up next month and want to replace these before then. I know the calipers on these things are super wide and we are limited on wheels. I would like to get an 18 inch wheel and tire setup that I don't need wheel spacers for and that will cost around $1000 shipped (if it's possible for the 2.7T model). I like the stock sportier 18 inch wheels but don't know what style or sizes will fit. I would like an 8 inch or wider if possible while still fitting under the fender. I plan to get some springs and lower the car too this winter. I want to keep these Blizzacks for the winter. Is there any wheel I can just bolt on in an 18 inch and look good?

I'd love to see what you guys in the same boat have done.

Thanks for any info you may give.

    Dave

If you like the look of the RS6 have a look at the B7 A4 S-line wheels, 18 x 8 and 45mm offset, fits great on my A6 2.7T...lots of these come up for sale in the classifieds for a really good price and usually include tires. That's how I got mine!

I can really handle that look. What springs did you use and how's the ride? Thanks for the reply.

Do you have any other pics? I just can't see how that oversized caliper can get behind them without a spacer. I see them all over E-bay as 18x8.5 with 35mm offset. I found a factory set with 43mm off set. Now sure which wayis best. I love the look and stance of yours. Not too keen on the tire or rim sticking out of the fender.

They look great and I've considered them but your calipers look different than mine. Mine look like they stick out much farther.

Are those stock calipers with aftermarket discs? What year car?

I really like the RS6 wheels alot but those were tied for second with the overpriced BBS wire spoke wheels.

The calipers are stock and the disc in zimmermen cross drilled. I have a 2003 A6 2.7T.

I see. I've been told the 2002 and up have different calipers than my 2000 and the 01. These calipers really hang out there past the disc mounting hat.

Neither site lists the wheels as fitting 2.7T or they just don't fit my taste. Is there anyone here with a factory 99-01 A6 2.7T with some 18's on it, using no spacers?

    Thanks

I can sell you my 17" BBS RC, I spent 350$ refinishing them a few months back. They are in great condition. They cost 560 each at the dealership. Light and strong wheels, AUDI OEM rims on some 04 models like mine.I can definitely get them to you at the price you're looking at

different years different calipers different offsets, you need rims w/ 35mm or smaller, but it also depends on the rim design itself.

    Gigi,

Send me some pics of them from the side and info on their sizes. I'm interested.

I'd love an 18 but if there is a 17 that will fit without all the spacer haggling and such, then I'd go that route and keep these for winter.

You shouldn't be running Blizzaks in the summer.

"Can I Run Blizzak Tires Year Round?

As with any purpose-built winter tire, Blizzak tires should only be used during the winter season to maximize their life span. Drivers should switch to their All-Season or summer tires during the other seasons.

Drivers shouldn't run Blizzaks (or any other winter tire) too early before or too late after the winter's core of late November to early April. This approximate four-month period represents the ideal time for winter tire use in many parts of the United States.

Winter tires don't wear in the snow, only when there isn't any!"

I know. THat's why I'm trying to get some summer wheels and tires. I just can't find anyone that sells them (decent wheels) for the 2.7 model. I'd buy a set if I knew what wheel fit.

I'd rather a different setup than the B5 S4's but if they're the only option, I'd bite. It looks like I'm too late for that one though. Thanks for the post.

Anyone else know what will fit on my car??

    Re: 2000 A6 2.7T. I need a better wheel. Help!!!

I love the look of the GT-1 but, I don't have $1200 or more to just put on wheels. I still need tires.

I'll end up needing brakes eventually and I wouldn't be against an upgrade. What caliper setup could I get that would work better than stock and be able to fit more rims? Is there a factory setup from a different year Audi that I can just bolt on? Then I could get the wheels I want and not worry about such a limitation.

    Thanks
    Dave

    Re: 2000 A6 2.7T. I need a better wheel. Help!!!

I went to the local Mieneke to get a part and saw an S4 in the bay. I asked to see the wheels and brakes. They let me look. The guy was getting new turbo's, injectors and a bunch of stuff. His calipers were the same as mine and it looked like the wheels would fit. They were scratched a bit and still only 17's but hey.

I got a bigger itch for new wheels now. Could you guys (02 A6 2.7T and PMR2.7t) post any angled shots of the calipers fitment with the wheel installed. I want to see how much room is there between the caliper and the wheel. I can judge from your brakes as to what room I'd have. I really like the Cashmire color. That's what mine is and it looks good with those wheels on it.

    Thanks
    Dave

Actually, lack of snow won't wear out a winter tire. It's the higher summer temperatures that will. Winter tires use a rubber compound that keeps it more pliable and grippy at freezing temperatures. This allows it to grip snow, ice and frozen asphalt better than summer tires or all seasons. When temperatures go up during the summer, the softer rubber compound of winter tires will wear more quickly.

Are those the factory calipers just dressed up? It looks to be so. Also is there a spacer there? In one of the pics I see the disc and caliper with what looks like a spacer is on the mounting face of the disc. Are your wheels 18's?

Thanks for the pics. That's alot more helpful. If I had my choice, I'd go for the B7 A4's first, R8's next and then the RS4's but if they're the only ones that fit, I'll be perfectly content.

Yeah, factory calipers painted with a sticker. No spacers in there. They are Velocity Motoring V708. They are 18x8.5 with a 38mm offset. You can also check with the B5 S4 folks for wheel fitment, as they have the same calipers.

No rubbing, H&R Coilovers. Love the ride. Not bouncy at all, corners great. When it was first installed the back tires were tucked about 1/2" and didn't rub at all, but I raised it to be level with the front.

    Re: 2000 A6 2.7T. I need a better wheel. Help!!!

sorry to jump your thread Dreed, but I'm in the same situation right now.

So can someone confirm certain things about my wheel and spring setup

Wheels: RS4 Reps 18X8 +35 offset all around
    Tires: 245/40/18
Springs: H&R Sport 1.75" front and 1.5" back

    My questions are

    1) Will I rub with 245 tires(i know I'm supposed to use 235, but I want little more tire with the roads here)?

    2) Will 245 tires give a bulky look to 8" wide wheels?

    3) How big of a gap will I have left once the tires and drop are done?

    thanks in advance

I just picked up a set of these in 18's (and I have a set of H&R Sports waiting in the wings) - what size tires are you running?
