    PULLED OVER for FIX-IT TICKET!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Wow - I know this belongs in the chatterbox, but I just had to post up here. So, I'm driving and notice this policeman sitting in the driveway of a fire house waiting to fill his quota.

I'm in the left lane. I continue across an intersection - At this point, I look in my rearview and see him following me. Then, his lights turn on (no siren) and he swerves a bit - So, I wasn't sure if he wanted to pass me or pull me over. Then, within 3 seconds he turns his siren on. Now, keep in mind, I'm on a busy street during rush hour, so I can't get over to the right side of the multi-lane road easily without taking about a 1/4 or so. So, I immediately see a small side street off to the left that I turn onto and immediately pull over. Keep in mind, this side street is approximately 400 feet from the intersection where the cop first turned on his lights.

He comes up to my window. I say, "How's it going officer?" to which he SCREAMS "DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID? YOU FAILED TO YIELD TO AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE! YOU FAILED TO DO SO! NOW YOU HAVE ME ON A SIDE STREET THAT I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE ON! YOU PULLED OVER TO THE LEFT. YOU ALWAYS PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT!!!!!"

I defend myself and said that I would rather have pulled over sooner over to the left than to take a longer time to pull over to the right. (Also, while this street is incredibly busy, it's one of those ones where homes and apartments line the street, and all of the residents park their cars on the street, making it near impossible to find an actual place to pull over.

At this point, I am more than perturbed at his disrespect and the fact that he LIED about me not yielding to him. But, I keep my composure and remain entirely respectful, even courteous, to him. I give him my license, registration.

After handing it over he talks down to me and says, "So, now what side of the road do you pull over to?" I simply look away from his eyes and quietly (but angrily) say, "the right."

Conclusion: He writes me up a Fix-it ticket for my tinted windows and says he'll only give me warning about failing to yield. Now, the question - I thought you weren't allowed to be pulled over for a fix-it ticket. So, in my eyes, he lied about me not yielding to his lights/siren to get me pulled over so he could give me a fix-it ticket. Now, if this is the case, he had NO reason to pull me over. So, if I was wrongly pulled over, I should have a case to get out of this - right? Humor me, please!

Re: PULLED OVER for FIX-IT TICKET!

I dont know about all this situation about not yielding to an emergency vehicle.
But here in Chicago u still get stopped even though at the end he/she gives you a fix it ticket.
My friends were even stopped for a not working rear license plate bulb and got warnings.
I got a State Ticket!? for tinted windows.

    My IMHO:
I mean if tinted windows are illegal in Ca, so they have no problems giving out the tickets to anyone they want. But, usually, they dont bother to stop someone just for that.

Not going to humor you on this one, just a reality check. A cop I use to know would do the same in a heart beat. Failure to signal lane change, was his favorite, or changing lanes within 100' of an intersection.

Re: PULLED OVER for FIX-IT TICKET!

Some times u just have bad luck and run into a cop that has nothing else better to do. In my maxima i was coming home from college on break, on a country road in farm land. Doing 60 in a 55, nothing wrong and just driving normal. A state trooper came outta no where and pulled me over at 8 am. Took out the tint meter and gave me a warning. I know wat you mean by just being pulled over out of the blue.

In the end, you really cant get out of a stupid ticket like that, u can just go to court and plead guilty and get it down or negotiate with the judge. It suxs, but we all go through it. good luck man

    First, http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/dl600.pdf
    Second, cop was a ********.
Third, should have pulled to the right.
Fourth, you gave cop probable cause to do whatever he choose to in his discretion.
    Fifth, cop was a dick.
Sixth, page 36 of Driver Handbook.

So what are we saying here? That the officer was on his way to an emergency or call and you got in his way so he pulled you over an actually had time to harass you and give you a ticket and put the emergency on hold. It's nice to see our taxes being so well spent.

In the cop's defense ... it has been quite hot out ... perhaps he had his thong in a bunch twisted deep up this arse ...

Probable cause is in the discretion of the cop and, here, bam, mioStile was popped ... sucks and so goes life periodically.

Re: PULLED OVER for FIX-IT TICKET!

After reading your post I started flashing back to Basic Training and being told by one of the DI's my "major malfunction was I think instead of just do!"

I completely understand your logic, unfortunately, all of PESAPC observations are correct.

Nevertheless, I too would like to know what emergency call, important enough to require lights & siren, got one less responder because the cop though your situation more important?

Re: PULLED OVER for FIX-IT TICKET!

This same thing happened to me but it was for speeding. He came up to my car screaming at me for not pulling over but I couldn't because there was a line of cars waiting to get into the mall. So I passed the line of cars and then pulled over. He comes up screaming his face off and gives me a ticket for 55 in a 35, failing to yield, and tint. What a bitch.

Re: PULLED OVER for FIX-IT TICKET!

Each city is different but from my experience the cops can and will pull you over for anything they deem as a reasonable cause. If they want to, they will. I think the reason why you are mislead for the fix-it ticket is because LA cops rarely ever give tickets for tints and no front plates. These tickets are ''reserved'' for parking enforcement officers. And if you live in LA, you know what I am talking about. You can park you car,put money in the meter, and the parking enforcement can slap a ticket on your car for tint and no front plate. Trust me, it has happened to me twice. But yes, the cop went a little far. Jealously is a bitch I guess.

-PS Did you resolved your steering vibration?

Re: PULLED OVER for FIX-IT TICKET!

My friend got pulled over when I was in the car, same kind of BS. Cop sees the kids car and remembered that this kid had gotten stopped several months ago for 50 in a 30 and unsafe start but the ticket was dropped in court. Bitter cop apparently follows us for 10 minutes without his lights on. This kid then makes a u-turn in a 4 way stop sign intersection(cop had pulled over 50 feet behind) because he needed to park in front of our friend's house. Cop then turn his lights on after we had parked and comes over to the car while we were still in it. Before he even goes to his car he asks the kid if he was stopped before and received two tickets. Kid says yes. The cop clearly was out to get him. The cop then starts citing several things the kid did wrong(rolling stop at stop sign, illegal u-turn even though we were on a road without double yellow) and gives this kid shit and whatever. He ended up just giving him a warning because he clearly did nothing wrong but the cop was just bitter and had nothing else to do. O i forgot to mention that this cop then called in backup and so we had 3 cop cars behind us when we didn't even do anything wrong. ridiculous.

Damn...I wish they "rarely" hit me for fix it tickets (LOL). I've been hit with a tint ticket on nearly every vehicle I've owned (doh). However (KNOCK ON WOOD)...I've never been hit by a parking enforcement officer for a fix it ticket...

Damn now that I said that I need to find a wood table to knock on for the next hour

Most cops are dicks on a power trip. The way the laws are they can pull you over for practically any reason. The fact that your s4 is Sprint Blue makes you even more of a target because it sticks out among all the other drab asian crap on the road.

Are you serious. they can give you tint tickets even when the car is not in motion!!!???

And the steering vibration does still occur and very high temperatures. I noticed you're in L.A. - has your car done this at all the past week or so?

NO WAY! He called for backup - what a bitch. That's pretty much all there is to say. One time, my roommate was taking dinner to his grandmother and a policeman pulled him over, claiming that he had run the plates and the car appeared stolen. My friend was driving his car, but it was registered under his dad's name. So, even as he tried to explain, they made him step out of the car and put him up against the side of the cruiser and searched him. Finally, after about 30 mins of waiting to figure it out, they finally realized their mistake.
