    Price fair???

I recently had the great experience of having my water pump go on me! So I took my B6 1.8t to Independent Tuning for a fix.

I was originally told by audi that it probably was my ect sensor that went and I need to replace... but it couldnt be that simple could it!

So Bryan at IT took my car into his hands and my money of course!!! :(
Total for oil change, timing belt and water pump = $939

In your opinion or experience was that a fair price?

Shouldn't you take this up with Bryan first and get a price breakdown if needed?

    Re: Price fair???

timing belt kit itself is about $500 ??
    Oil Change - $65 Motul 5w40 roughly
Water Pump - ehh not sure...
IT hourly rate of $70-75 i think?
    +tax

Sounds about right. They should have provided a receipt for what was done... so look at the receipt? if you still have an issue then talk to bryan?

    Re: Price fair???

In my experience, IT is VERY fair in their pricing If you went elsewhere to get the same work done, I'll bet at least 2 out of three shops would be considerably more than a grand for the same work. Do you recall them telling you that they also checked did an inspection of several other itmes whiledo great work.under the hood ? The boys at IT not only have good pricing but do great work.

I actually get a good chunk of my work done there and live over 4 hours away from them !!

    Re: Price fair???

Brian and Mark are extremely fair. I have a mechanic that's close to my office and I believe he's about $65/hr. If I took it to him and had him do all the stuff you said it would've cost me a touch less, but not much. Maybe $100, but that's the labour alone.

There's something you need to know. The guys working on your car should know what they're doing. Independant Tuning knows VAG cars inside and out. They're actually better than the dealers! I've heard terrible stories about dealer techs giving bad advice and poor reccommendations. Brian will never do that to you. He's as honest as anyone can be.

    Re: Price fair???

I believe thats a fair price compared to, of course taking this to the extreme, the dealer for god knows what they'll charge you. $939 is a good price if you ask me. I've been there several times and they don't look like guys who would rip you off. They're good people.

    Re: Price fair???

sounds fair, I hade my Timingbelt kit done about 2 years ago at home (In N-B) even with the cheaper labour out there it still cost me $700 all said and done (ECS Ultimate Timing Belt Kit ~300 with exchange at the time ) + Labour (8hrs $350ish) + tax. Factor in the Higher Labour costs in Ontario and it sounds fair.

Would have been cheaper but they ran into so Seized bolts and such and had to take the whole front end appart... good new is I got my headlight alligned for free lol.
