Clean bill of health (and snub question)

Took my car to Shannon at Full Throttle this morning. I've had it just over a month, and I wanted him to inspect it for any major problems. Turns out it's in great shape. Only main issues were 1) the car was towed before, and some idiot put the hooks in the aluminum "thing" under the car, so the aluminum tore a little. He said it wasn't a big deal; 2) factory snub is crumbling; 3) car has wrong size oil filter (which explains why it was slightly over the dipstick full line from the dealer.

EDIT: 4) had "P1475 EVAP leak detection pump no signal upper limit exceeded" code. He said to make sure I'm tightening gas cap for 3 clicks (I had only been doing 1 click). Cleared it and will check when I go back in a month or two.

He also enabled the auto-lock for my doors. I had it in the Jetta, and I like it.

So, my question re. snub mount. I've seen APR's instructions and this DIY - they are totally different approaches. The DIY requires bumper removal whereas the APR sheet makes it look like a 20 minute job.

Which one is proper? Planning on ordering the Apikol soon.

They will both work equally well.. if you do the one where you just remove the bracket you will need to center the new snub mount by loosening the bolts on the bumper area where it sits and run the car at idle with a few short revs and then tighten the bumper bracket..IIRC

The other method of removing the bumper does not require the above centering. I did this when I did my Timing belt job since the bumper assembly was off. You could just wait until you do the Timing belt and have them throw it on if you don't want to go throught the alternate process... GL

The B5's you have to remove the bumper. The B6's you just have to crawl under the car and remove a couple of bolts and replace. B6 snub replacement is about 20-30 mins tops.

ahhhh - thanks. I think I'll be able to handle this one on my own then.

I'll try to take some pictures when I do it - probably next weekend.

When you say wrong sized oil filter, is it big or little? You should be using the big ones.

It has a little one on it. My guess is they put a little one on, filled the case with the OEM amount, and since the filter isn't holding as much b/c it's small, that's why it's above the line a little bit.
