I hear there are lots of problems with them. I like the way they look (especially compared to the Rovers back in the day...ughh).

It's very much a "status" car (at least out here in So*Cal)

My Land Rover dealer told me, that most people who buy one never by another Rover again, and that's coming from the dealer himself.

Re: thinking about picking up a range rover...talk me out of it

Overall RRS is a good car - one of the best looking SUVs in my opinion.

    Pros:
    1. Exterior
    2. Prestige/class

    Cons:
    1. Interior - looks like Ford Explorer inside
    2. Price compared to competitors with equal options
    3. Reliablity

So it really depends what are you comparing it with.

I know 2 people with RRSs that hated them... 1 of which got lemoned, the other one of which has had tons of issues.

The Cayennes on the other hand have excellent reliability from what I've heard. I think theyve actually won awards recently. Porsche is doing quite well with that kinda stuff lately.

Re: thinking about picking up a range rover...talk me out of it

    OK Cayenne pros and cons

pros: they look ok, and If you get the sport or turbo their pretty fast.

    cons:

1.the interior is pretty plain for what you pay, the nav. set up and over all dash is one of the worst most button-happy designs I've ever seen.
2.Terrible resale value, like most expensive SUV's they just tank in value especially with gas prices doing what they are doing right now.
    3.Horrible gas mileage
4.Mediocre styling and If you ever wanted to trick it out, your looking at big bucks, especially If like most you agree that Techart and Gemballa are really the only nice styling available.

    Totally agree with you.

Last weekend I test drove the entry-level Cayenne and I was disappointed. The interior is very cheap and everything is outdated. The power was OK for 6 cyl SUV, but nothing special. The only thing that I liked was the exhaust note. The price is ridiculous. You can get X5 or Q7 with more options for less. GTS and Turbo models look astonishing and are great in power/handling departments, but the base Cayenne just sucks.

Sorry dudes, I think Cayenne's are freakin' hot... If you need an SUV.

I had an 05' HSE RR a couple years ago. Nice car, and I had zero problems with it sans scheduled maintenance, but I only had it for a bout 15k miles. I think there is a pretty decent reason the resale has plummeted in the last couple years.

    Rover................

I had one several years ago, and never again...........while owned by me it was in the stealer's possession almost as much as it was in mine. It was one electrical nightmare after another.

I have countless friends and business associates that have had the Range Rover HSE (both with the X5 motor, and with the Ford/Jaguar motor), and Range Rover Sport (non SCed and SCed), and they've all told me that the happiest day during their ownership was the day they got rid of it. As many of theirs too were plagued with numerous problems.

However, I do have several friends that have the Range Rover SCed and they have never had any problems. I guess it's just the luck of the draw when it comes to owning a Range Rover.

talk you out of it? my friend spent 5g's on his range last month...and it's under warranty still.
he is currently getting it painted satin black for 800 bucks since he couldn't give a damn about it anymore and just wants to get rid of it.
and thanks to tata, "prestige" isn't really a factor anymore.

actually they do a decent job and they're hooking him up like 2g's off. nothing close to that slr mclaren with the satin finish, but it works.

hopefully it will devalue his car so much i can buy it off him and crash it for kicks.

My father has had 2 RR's. Sold the first one with 75K miles. Went out and bought another because he likes it so much. The interior is one of the nicest on the planet. He has never had a problem with either of them in 100K+ miles. Make sure it is under warranty and you are fine. There are plenty of used ones out there with extended warranties.

Re: thinking about picking up a range rover...talk me out of it

Ah, the car "experts" strike again. "Ford makes them, they're crap". Funny how Ford is consistently ranked as one of the highest quality auto makers in the last few years. Yes, they had some rough years, but they've really turned their quality around. I've owned 6 Fords, never had any major (or really even minor) problems with any of them. The biggest problem I had was the ZX2 I owned right after high school, the serpentine belt would consistenly work itself loose and squeal.

Land Rovers have had some major issues. The Range Rover's interior is far superior to the Land Rover. There's not a car on the market that doesn't have some kind of issue. Look at what we all drive! Take care of it, and it will take care of you.

Just remember that a lot of off-road driving schools and high-altitude rescue squads use Land Rovers due to their off-road prowess. But they are what they are. Don't expect it to ride like a car, don't expect it to be invincible off-road, and don't ever expect any car to not have a problem.
