    Question Tints

    Hello everyone,
I have a question about tints. I just bought an '02 black B6 a couple weeks ago and am just beginning to mod it. In Vermont, where I live, the law states that the rear windows and rear windshield can be any shade, while the front windows cannot be tinted at all. Since my car is black, I want to go all the way and tint it 5% in the back because I think black car + black tint looks oh-so-sexy. Now my concern is with the front: do cops actually care about this, and will they actually pull you over and give you a ticket? I suppose that generally differs from city to city, but I want to go +/- 50% in the front WITHOUT getting pulled over. I have a number of tickets under my belt and don't feel like getting more for something as stupid as too-dark tints. So...

    1. Has anyone else gotten pulled over for this/gotten a ticket for it? Should I just go middle finger to the law and do it anyway?

    2. Are tickets for this expensive?

    3. Does more than one shade of tint look like s***?

    Re: Tints

Varies from place to place. Seems to me it depends on the cop or station.

    Re: Tints

the roads that you drive around a lot on, are there a lot of cops near those roads?
then, do you live in a town where police just like to tickets?

if you say no to both questions, you can risk it. factory windows have tint on them already. what you can do is like 40% front 20% rear. then the contrast is not that bad.

    Re: Tints

I used to drive my silver A4 with 15% tint on all windows around Burlington all the time and never got a ticket. If i saw a cop I usually rolled the fronts down and never had a problem. Friends of mine have all gotten tickets for their tint so its all luck I think. Also you have to find somewhere to inspect it which can be a pain unless you know the place. Tickets are $150 for first time too.

    Re: Tints

As mentioned it depends on where you live. Out in So*Cal I tint all my windows on every car I've had and have been nailed for every car so far. Also keep in mind, if your interior is dark, it'll make the tint look darker. I just had my A4 tinted last night. I went 5% rears and 15% fronts. The fronts are dark!

    Re: Tints

It depends. In SD I just got a ticket for having tint on the front and had to remove it (planning on putting it back on of course , probably 20%). But I got the ticket because I was pulled over for speeding (d'oh) and the cop decided to tack on a little more to the ticket for my tinting. Of course, I've been pulled over before for a different violation and that cop didn't ticket me for the tint. So it all depends. I've never gotten a ticket for just the tint alone.

    Re: Tints

    1. Yes, tons of people get tint tickets.
    2. Yes, they can be expensive. Sometimes they are just fines, other times you must remove the tint.
    3. To me...yes. more than 1 shade of tint looks bad. especially when one is 5% and the other is 50%.

IMO. 5% looks too gangster. 20-35% is a good range. 50% isn't really worth it.

    Re: Tints

Thanks a lot, guys. I will probably go +/- 25% all around... f*** the cops.

VT_Quattro, where you from in Vermont? I live in Charlotte.
Eric @ WAR, do you seriously have a 900hp Camaro? That thing must be ridiculous... what did you put into it to get 900?

For here (SoCal) they will give you a fix it ticket if you get pulled over. Just don't get pulled over then.

Yep :) (that's crank HP). We've built her up in several different configurations over the past few years. She was used as a test bed and show car (in fact is still only has 31k miles on it!!!). The current set up includes Nitrous

    Re: Tints

That's still ridiculous, even though its CHP... that mean's you still have, what, 800-850? That's sick, man. Have you ever had it dyno'ed?

***Oh yeah, back to the original topic. I didn't even think about inspection... will it be difficult to find somewhere that will slap a sticker on it, even though they know it's illegal?

We have almost the same car, except mines a 3.0. Black interior? Manual? Seksay.

And don't get pulled over? Psh... Audis can outrun Crown Vics any day of the week. The good ones can even outrun radios.
