    Question Apikol vs.Tyrol sport SMIC, any feedback?

    Just waned some feedback as to who is running either of these SMIC, and how they seem to be liking them, etc.
    Just got k04'd up, so trying to figure out the best one to go with.

    I'd go with a DSMIC or FMIC for lower IATs.

    I'm only going k04 for now, since the car is at 100k. Any ideas as far a what options I have for the DSMIC? or where I can shop around for some? People keep telling me that the AWE FMIC is overkill for just a K04 setup, based on ur knowledge how true is this?

    ER FMIC "Sport Version" is perfect for a ko4. That is what I have and it rocks

    In my opinion a FMIC is perfectly fine for a K04. I've seen IAT logs of the Apikol on a stage 1+ setup and the numbers were too high for my liking.

    Neuspeed sells a DSMIC setup.

    i dont get why so many people keep saying a FMIC is overkill for 1+ or k04.. ive told people countless times, with just a 1+ setup, my IATs would easily exceed 170F, now with my racetec they stay within 5-10 of ambient and the car pulls amazingly harder, much moreso than when i added exhaust and test pipe... i still make 22lbs of boost as well!

    I have the Apikol SMIC, and I am extremely happy with the fit and finish of it.

    For me it came down to
    OEM placement
    Cost
    Great Customer Support from the Company
    Not needing All out performance


    Having said that, there are days (30++ Degree Celsius) that the car feels a little sluggish, as would most 1.8Ts

    The SMIC's just dont seem to be able to really decrease the IAT's enough during the warmer summer months or decrease how much the IAT's rise during a gear pull. It really doesn't matter if your K03 or K04 since those 2 turbos really put out the highest temps when being pushed at chipped boost levels. The other problem is that the SMIC and DMIC just dont put the core in direct air flow while the car is driving which is why the IAT"s are not really decreased all that much vs a FMIC.


    The Apikol on a stage 1+ setup showed a decrease of about 20 degs, OEM peak of 198F down to a peak of 178F during a 3rd gear pull in mid 80 temps. That is only a decrease of 10% for about $500, even a FMIC that is twice as much is going to give a % that is 3-4 times that much.

    good info there ^^^ and a racetec isnt much more, about $800 shipped now

    If you see how the plastic shroud fits around the stock or upgraded SMIC, you will understand why it doesnt get much direct airflow through it


    last log i ran with my racetec was 85F ambient and my IATs never went past 92F... i am going to put some thick plastic/rubber stuff around the edges of it to direct as much as possible through the core and not around it, ill run logs before and after to see if it helps any

    12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.

    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.

    HAHA! i know! ive told sooooooo many people!!! and i do that because its resulted in the biggest increase in power to my car except for the apr 1+ flash... i know i even did a thread when i first got it and posted my logs side by side... and for some reason people STILL say a FMIC is overkill for 1+

    just like my FE SS i guess

    no, i dont know if racetec sells direct, i believe mine was around $840 shipped from [email protected] i saw them somewhere else for $799.99 but i dont remember if that included shipping

    Spoke with the boys at AWE, and it looks like I'm gonna with the FMIC, unless I can find a comparable product for a cheaper price. I appreciate all the info in this thread guys, thanks a bunch.

    There is a GB going on for the Racetec FMIC IIRC, $800 or so. Check the GB forum.
