    secondary air injection help!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
well long story short, i was doin my valve cover gaskets and apparently the egr valve thing on the drivers side was weak and must of been cracked, i put hardly any pressure against it to lift off the valve cover and it broke , so far i heard 2 solutions to fix my prob, first is get new part ect ect ect, the other thing i heard was to remove the whole secondary system completely and get block off plates where they bolted to the head, i read the system is for emissions/ somthing with the cats, so since im not running cats at all y do i need it right? lol
any hear of anyone taking off the secondary system and hae any probs besides a CEL? i can deal with a CEL but i dont want my car to run like poop, anyone???

    Re: secondary air injection help!!

I dont know the cost of new part, nor how it would run without the air injection system, but I guess if I were you I'd just get it done right and get it fixed.

I had the CEL for months awhile back and pretty much ignored it, but then I figured out the problem (bad temp sensor) and since then it hasnt come on but once in awhile, which I take care of.

I do have to say it is so much better to not have the thing stare me in the face every time I drive it. Just something to think about.

ive seen you can get a resistor along with the block off plates to get rid of the cel. i have never tried it though.

the secondary air system is something I'm pretty sure only automatics have. I dont remember exactly but it does nothing besides emissions stuff. It won't affect performance. Its probably cheaper to just code it out of your ecu.

I believe that I have two of those valves. I'd be willing to cut a deal.
