Question for you all with coilovers on your rides...

I'm looking at gettin out of the clouds and lowerin my ride, but I heard that for the B6 A4 the height is NOT adjustable with the coilovers installed.
    Is that so?

Ok, I guess my other replies got lost... but yup, heard depending on the type of coilovers ... the ability to make adjustment is based on tool required and space required.

This is incorrect info. Coilover suspension allows you to change ride height. Now, on a B6/B7 there isn't as much ride height adjustment as we'd all like, but there is adjustment.

Which coilover kit are you looking at? I'd recommend STaSIS' StreetSport kit for a daily driver.

Re: On B6 A4 Coilover adjustable?

I talked to someone at a mod shop.

That certain coilovers due to the available space between wheel and wheelwell thay will essential be unadjustable when installed.

I've ordered KW Variant 1 coilovers and heard that those will remain adjustable while still on the car.

Have not installed yet but awaiting anxiously.

The question regarding this is...they will be adjustable in the rear, but will they be provide as much rear adjustment as you want? The B6/B7 rear in general just doesn't allow for a ton of adjustment vs a B5 car for example.

I don't think one coilover manufacturer vs another will allow for more or less adjustment, but I think you'll be happy with the V1's.

I think he's referring to information he got from people like me. I have the Stasis SS and it's great. However, to adjust the rears you need to compress the springs. You don't have to remove the spring, but without compressing it it's virtually impossible to adjust once installed.

Yes, agreed. This is a characteristic of the B6/B7 rear susp with the spring and damper separate. The car is lowered with coilovers, therefore the springs are more compressed. To be able to raise rear ride height with coilovers, it's VERY difficult to do so with the spring in there (and uncompressed). We actually remove the spring to adjust rear ride height, then reinstall the spring. BUT this doesn't mean that the rears aren't adjustable on the car...it just means that the rears are very difficult to adjust with everything together on the car. That's the difference.

Very difficult as in: it took me a half hour and a lot of sweat to turn the darn thing one turn... After that, I reinstalled the wheel and took an appointment at a garage

Re: On B6 A4 Coilover adjustable?

Some kits are indeed easier to adjust for ride height while on the car, than others.

Our Vogtland coilovers adjust extremely easy on the rears for the B6/B7. Just a 10mm allen bit and a ratchet, and they adjust. No need to remove tires, springs or anything like some other kits.

Re: On B6 A4 Coilover adjustable?

Just finished installing my KW Varient 1 coilovers. They ride nice .

So I've also found the answer to my previous question. My coilovers are adjustable while installed on the car. Best way to adjust them is when the wheels are removed due to clearance issues.

    Now I'm riding lower

    Pics to follow.

Yes, definitely easiest to change ride height with the wheels/tires off the car.

    Front coilovers are easily adjusted.

To adjust rear coilovers use an allen wrench goes in the center and then make the adjustment.
