Who said you couldn't? But unless you are running 2.8, 2.4 or RS4 heads (or you are also porting your stock S4 heads), you are creating a step.

The stock S4 manifold matches up with the stock S4 heads.

I'm not sure how much power gain you get from just port matching the flange. I'd image it's better than an unmatched port.

There are some guys (naudlee) who are experimenting with enlarging the stock manifold plenum. Check out his build thread.

Its more of a complimentry gain if any. Say a percentage. A K03 setup would probably see nothing, a larger setup would see a few HP on the same manifold/port/match.

I have heard of ported heads/intake on a supercharged cars causing boost to be lowered due to less restriction but fixed amount of air being pumped by the supercharger. I wonder if the porting would cause the computer to let the turbo's work a bit harder to keep the same boost with less restriction hence make more power, or conversely let you lower the boost 1-2psi and keep the same performance letting turbos live longer.

What I think I see (which bothers me) in this application is that the runners leading to the head look to have a significantly smaller cross sectional area then where they enter the heads which opens way up. This is the opposite of what you want in an NA application since it creates a stagnation zone where the air looses velocity, however I don't know about porting for boost.

The only thread I have seen where a before/after was done with just the intakes ported (not heads) the guy gained 2/10'ths in the quarter mile which is pretty big in my book for just an intake. He was also switching from 00 to an 02 style intake. I just know that with every other car I have done the head/intake on it has been a pretty impressive difference.

Is the intake on the 2.8 cars compatible with everything on the s4? I am thinking since the intake ports on the 2.8 heads are bigger they would make the manifold to match with some beefier runners.
