    99.5 double din?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been searching for a while and seem to get more confused the more I read.
Basically I have a 99.5 A4 with the garbage single DIN setup, and was think about getting an aftermarket double din CD/DVD headunit.
I think single-DIN flipout units are lame
Some threads suggest that I would need to switch consoles, others say I would only need to switch cages.
    has this been done?
I'd like to reuse my HVAC if possible?
Basically has Audi bent me over or is there any straightforward way to get a double din unit in there without spending a fortune (I dont mind custom fabbing if need be)
    thanks

I havent done this but having the double din I would think you need at least
    double din cage
    Vac controls

It's been done, you can search, but you need the cage, the HVAC controls, new center console, and I'm not 100% sure, but I think you need the ashtray too.

The really easy way to do this is to ditch the ashtray and relocate the HVAC control panel down there. Then you've got room in the dash for a 10" touchscreen or any aftermarket deck.

^at that point you need to fab up a trim piece. Good way to go if you can swing it, but if you want the stock look, you've got one choice!
