    Eating light bulbs for breakfast!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I've had my A4 since december (07). I've bought 3 headlight bulbs 4 taillights, a brake bulb, and reverse bulb. - That's 9 in 6 months.

Is it just mine, or do Audi's just eat light bulbs for breakfast?

(And no I haven't been touching the bulb with bare fingers)

It is, but you know as well as I do how hard it is to diagnose that type of thing, and whether they'll do anything about it is a whole other story.

Re: Eating light bulbs for breakfast!!!

I've had only one tail light bulb burn out in 5 years. If the bulbs are going out regularly, then the voltage regulator in the alternator is probably not controlling voltage as it should, and causing high voltage spikes frequently. The only way to find out is to hook up a recording digital multimeter and monitor the maximum peak voltage that occurs while driving the car during the day and at night. Very cold weather is hard on bulbs also.

I have only replaced the brake light bulb once, until yesteday. I installed the new ECS side markers, and next day the brake light went out. 2 days later it magically workes. Now It says it is out again. WTF?

8 out of every 10 cars with broken bulbs I see around, are German. I'm sure it has gotten better, but you should see the electrical system in my Ur quattro, it makes old Jaguars look like the epitome of reliability. Germans kinda suck at this
