wow what an idiot... this could have been prevented in two ways:

The RS4 driver couldhave held back his douchebagginess
Rubin should have been paying attention like Garcia. It's pretty obvious to see if some idiot is in your lane... you look straight ahead. No disrespect for the deceased, but people need to pay attention more on the road and drive defensively. Always assume the other guy is going to do something stupid. I always check for people passing in oncoming traffic.

    Re: anyone know this owner....?

As a mod, you may want to temper your remarks even further for the deceased, as she was a very good friend of mine. I don't think most people would be able to react when a car comes 24" into your lane at a high rate of speed. Only one thing would have prevented this accident.

This is not a vendetta on my part or anything, I am just curious as to whether or not the kid made a huge mistake and feels terrible, or if he could be some rich snob who's parents have already hired a high prcied lawyer. He was bailed out of jail before her body even left the morgue. We all make mistakes, but it would nice to think that this was an isolated one and this kid and his family are just as torn up as Mrs Rubin's family....

No doubt.. I don't want to disrespect the deceased at all... it's just that I think we ALL need to really pay attention on the road. There will always be reckless drivers out there, and more eyes hopefully mean less accidents. If we can take away one good thing from something so tragic, maybe it's that we all need to improve our driving strategies so this kind of loss would be less likely in the future.

In my experience I've seen it too many times. You see other drivers make mistakes, and because someone wasn't paying close enough attention, you can literally see the late reaction, or no reaction at all... because people assume that other drivers stay in their lanes or follow the law. The times I have driven outside of the US, where lines, speed limits, and traffic signals mean very little, I saw less accidents because people HAD TO be more aware of the roads and other cars because of this fact. It's no secret that US drivers are one of the most distracted and detached drivers in the world.

    Re: anyone know this owner....?

Having grown up and learned to drive in SLO County I can say that folks there aren't the most aware when it comes to driving. Judging from from the kid's age, having been on that road countless times and the amount of power that car has, this kid was pretty much set up. I'm sure he wanted to open up the taps and these commuters just wanted to happily cruise along at 35 mph in the 50 mph zone. Based on the photo, it's clear that he "floated" over in a no passing zone on what appears to be one of the many blind hills on that road. The blind hill could explain why the oncoming driver didn't see him.

Hopefully he's learned how to control his "urges," it is a shame that it took someone else's life to do so.

True, how often does this story get repeated, it takes a tragedy to make someone come to their senses.

I only took me 3 speeding tickets in less than a two year period to snap out of it when I was 17....

true.. I take that part back with respect. But that doesn't lessen the need for people to really watch out and drive defensively. This could have been avoided.

this is a tragedy..who knows if htis could have been avoided...if someone would come 2 ft in front of me and im going 50mph and they are coming towards me...never know what could happen...

but I agree some people need to focus more on the road than their cell phones or other distractions.

I'm glad you took back what you said. That was a real shitty remark.

    DUDE... WTF are you saying...
Not every1 with a license is a skilled driver like you may be. Look how skinny those lanes are. There's no shoulder lane either...

Don't go saying it could have been avoided if you didn't even witness the accident.

Very sad story. Hope the stupid RS4 kid gets what he deserves.

I never said I was a perfect driver, but every bit of attention helps. I didn't see the pics b4 I made the comment and I took it back.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, another member reminded me of this thread today and I want to make sure I was clear that I admit I was in the wrong posting what I posted in the tone that I posted it in, however I realize that talking about the deceased is a very sensitive subject. I've seen too many accidents where people weren't paying attention to other reckless drivers to not get emotional about this issue, and maybe I'm a little numb to the fact that people die every day on the roads (I've known too many of them). And no one wants to hear why and how, they just want to hear that it's tragic, we should be sad, no one deserves this, and it's the other guy's fault. It's comforting I know, but I think we can honor the deceased more by learning what we can from what happened. I, for one, am more careful in certain situations because of what happened to friends and family. There is not much you can do in a 2 lane skinny highway, but man, I can take that awareness of futility and do everything I can to make sure it's safe when *I* try to pass someone, or to have an exit strategy (a term from driver's ed) when in a similar situation. Know what I mean?

np, I think we all did in a way. It's hard dealing with these situations. Personally, I get angry because I've already felt the sadness in the past. I just directed it at everyone involved instead of just the RS4 driver at fault.
