    Need Help ASAP!!!

Hi, I have an '02 A4 1.8T Quattro which I'm rebuilding. Now this is the first Audi I've put my hands on and I'm not a pro-mechanic just an aficionado. Anyways, after plugging most of the cables and sensors I have come across a few issues and I was wondering if any of you savvy guys could provide me some info and help in order to solve this issues. The following are the issues I have come across:
    • The Kombi Vave or SAI is broken and I'm replacing it as soon as the dealer gets it. Is this really an essential valve or it does not really come into play?
    • I'm missing something which I have no clue what it is, but it's located between the power steering reservoir and the manifold intake. REFER TO THE PICS .

I might have taken it off and misplaced it somewhere. I think b/c of this I have a couple of cables just wondering around. Do you think I'm losing power due to this cables not being plugged properly? Does anyone know what's this thing called? Or what's its function?

I would really appreciate all the help. Thanks.

I have an empty space in mine too, thats how it was when I bought it, seems like something is missing. I have a plastic cover over mine though, so it fills the void. I was told that the 3.0 has something there, but the 1.8 shouldn't.

But a direct picture from the top would be more helpful

Thanks for posting. Are you sure that there shouldn't be anything for the 1.8? I mean I have 2 cables that I have no clue what's their function and I'm almost sure that there should be a connection in that empty spot. You right, I should get pics from the top and kind of get a close-up to get a better idea. I'll try to get those pics posted ASAP. Thanks again for the help.

I believe that spot is for some sort of vacuum or brake booster that is needed in Automatic cars. Assuming that yours is manual and that is what you are indeed talking about then that space should be empty.

I have an empty spot there as well, I don't think you should worry about it.

The Combination/SAI valve is only active for a couple of min just after cold start up.

The "missing" item is a vacuum pump to boost the power brakes on Auto/Tip cars. It's not used on manual trans cars.

    Re: Need Help ASAP!!!

Thanks everyone. All the help has come in handy. I just replaced the SAI Valve and I sure feel a difference I don't know why, but it seems like I'm getting the right pressure now. About the empty spot I'm only left with on cable that needs to get plugged, but I think is one of the side signal lights. I'm going to check tomorrow. Now another issue I just noticed when I changed my front bumper to an aftermarket one that does not have the spot for the washers, neither the fog lights is that my cluster shows a failure signal for both. Is there someway to cancel or erase it? Thanks again guys...

To simulate the missing fog lights, you need to determine the highest resistance value in ohms that will result in a circuit load in amps sufficient to satisfy the self check system, and connect a resistor in place of the fog lamp.
