Brake light and annoying 3 beep chime coming on every few minutes of driving..

This has become so frustrating.
So last weekend I replaced my pass side CV booth. In the process I touched one of the ABS sensor boots (no big deal). Put everything back, and voila every time I drive the car, slow down, accelerate, usually between speeds of 0-35mph I will get three beeps (like the gas light one) and brake will flash either a few times or until I shut the car off. This goes off maybe 5-10 times on a 4mile drive from work to home. What gives? Did I inadvertently touch or move something?

Car is 2k 1.8tq.

something is wrong with the abs sensor. check the wires and make sure the sensor is clean.

lol I JUST fixed this problem on my car this morning. Top off the brake fluid and let us know what happens. Since you're accelerating, the nose goes up and the brake fluid just misses the sensor. Try it

You should never add brake fluid. If you are low on brake fluid it must mean its leaking somewhere. I might have missunderstood what you were saying so I am sorry for the missundestanding.

I hope you're kidding.

See this is the thing. A few months ago I put in an aftermarket horn. To mount the relay, I drilled a hole on top of the plastic piece covering ABS relays (near the ABS control module). Well, I drilled into one of the wires, but I was able to solder the wire together (PITA).
Ever since (maybe 5 months now), I'd get the Brake light and mandatory three-beep every once in a while (maybe once a month). But after replacing the CV booth, it's on every few minutes.

I think it's time to check if the soldered wire is ok, or if the ABS sensor is dirty, or gawd I hope it's not the ABS module.

Is it the yellow abs light on solid and the red brake light flashing? If it is, my car is doing the same thing, and from what I've heard that usually means its the ABS module.
For you it might be something else since you have done repairs on the wire and maybe something with the wheel sensor.
I tried to find out if the warning lights came on in different ways depending on what the problem was, like just the yellow light solid or blinking or with the red brake light, but I never found any info on that, just that the common problem that everyone has is usually the ABS module. I asked a local independent vw mechanic about it and we were going to check the codes and see if it was a wheel sensor or something else and the more I told him about what it was doing he said thats most likely the module and so I didn't bother getting it checked out.
It was kinda here and there for awhile, but now as soon as I start the car every time it beeps with the lights, so I do believe its the module, and I haven't got around to sending it out to get repaired yet.

yeah im going to have to agree and say its the abs module. mine did exactly that thing early this spring, and now it is constantly on. the dealership even told me a couple months ago (stupid flasher switch) after they ran my car through diagnostics check that i would need to replace my module soon because it was blown. sure enough it stays on all the time and gets annoying, but look at this way. speaking of which does anyone know if an b5 s4 abs module will work for a b5 a4 2.8?

I forgot to mention, the light that keeps coming on all the time is the brake light, abs light never comes on.
this happens all the time now, i could be driving the car in neutral no brakes applied, when the car is stationary, etc.

sorry not to thread jack, i have also been getting a beeping going on when i open my door when my car is on. It only has been happening sometimes though. anyone know what that could mean?

alen, is the brake light solid or flashing? If it flashing your fluid is low, just check it and add as needed (the level is on the side of the reservoir). For your window not going up, possibly your window regulator going out.

ok, so i checked the brake fluid level and it was within spec. still i added a little more and the light and the chime do not come back as much but still appeared a few times.

nothing really. if you read the original post, this started happening RIGHT AFTER i changed my pass side cv booth.
something like that leads me to believe that I must've touched a sensor or something before i can assume something on a bigger scale.
then you add these other responses about brake fluid, etc, i'd like to eliminate simple potential sources of issue first.
or you can just call it denial lol.


either way, if i scan it with vagcom, will i see any codes (if it's the abs module)?

if it was a speed sensor issue then you would only get an abs light.

if you have a defective module you will have a code in the ecu about a communication error. and you will not be able to connect with the abs module.

not true. i had a speed sensor go out and the car would beep 3 times, the abs light would light up, and the brake light would blink.

but that doesnt sound like the issue here, because it never beeped at me more than when the lights frist came on (a few seconds after i started the car)

my current abs module throws an open circuit left side speed sensor code. it only lights the abs light.

Ok, so I scanned the car and no codes from the ABS.
Also, I'd like to reiterate that only the brake light comes on with the beeps. ABS light does not come on.

WRONG, dude. As your pads wear your fluid will go lower because the piston willbe extended further and further. If you have to fluid every then yes, you have a leak. Otherwise adding fluid about halfway through a brake pad's life is normal.

If you have sensored pads, the light will come on in the center of your display. The brake light on the right only comes on during low brake fluid and when your e-brake is engaged.

+1 about abs light only with sensor. If you arent getting codes, its power to the abs module, or the abs module thats bad.

Just to provide an update.. the issue is gone!

This is what I gathered: A little before the problem surfaced, I drilled a small hole on the plastic cover of the brake connectors and relays to place a bolt that holds my aftermarket horn. As I drilled through I inadvertently cut through one of the wires. I soldered it and all was fine. Then, after a while, the beeping initiated. Abs light never came on. Just blinking brake and beeping.
It would come on randomly.
I wanted to revisit my soldering job. Everything was still intact, but the soldering caught some surface oxidation. I cleaned (sanded) it off and taped it well this time, and voila. It never came back.

I believe with all the other issues where the ABS light blinks it has to do with the control module, as many others have previously stated.

I have the same solid red brake light flash along with 3 chimes. What's interesting about this is on my way to work almost every day, the chime happens in the same spot along my route. It's like clockwork.

well my abs light is stuck on and my brake light blinks. i chimes 3 times but only when i first start the car.

PM Kompresed. He will fox it for you . Fixed mine a few months back and works like a charm now. $50 compared to like $600 most will charge you for a new one. Do it!

Went to my mech on the way home and as it turns out, my brake fluid was really low as one of the rear calipers was leaking. So there you go... Looks like the infamous '3 beeps' can be any number of things!
