    2003 a6 4.2 - looking for aftermarket cat

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my dealer just told that my cat is bad and it keeps tripping the MIL light. They won't cover it under the emissions warranty because apparently there is impact damge. I can't pass emissions without buying a new cat and they want $1700.00 for one. Any know of a source for good aftermarket cats that are cheaper?

What the hell did you hit? Did you actually see this damage? I might try another dealer for a second opinion.

I personally don't remember hitting anything. I just have a fault code and you can't pass emissions in the state of Washington with any emissions related fault codes. I am going to a different dealer to see if they will cover it under warranty. If not I am going to have to replace it.

I would ask to be shown the damage too. I have never heard of this happening.....well ever actually. Especially to a C5 4.2

I went to an independent shop and had them put it up in the air to see the damage myself and there are some scrapes on the lower cat and the flex pipe is frayed but it's not really impact damage. I have a call into Audi USA and we'll see where that leads.

I think it would be cheaper to just get custom exhaust. Ask an indy to give you a quote. That way you could get a less restrictive exhaust for the same price.
