Confirmed Drop with Neuspeed, Tein, & Eibach springs on sport suspension?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have done plenty of searching and found varying answers to this question. Im hoping some of you guys running this set up could chime in and put down some personal experience. The reason Im asking is that Ive read plenty of posts explaining how their drop was much more than the advertised/listed measurement.

Here is what I have so far based on various posts and manufacturer sites for the drop on the stock sport suspension:

    Eibach: 0.5" F+R

    Tein: 1.5" F - 1.0" R

    Neuspeed: 0.75" F+R

supposely eibach will work well with sports suspension. I went with eibach/bilstein combo to be safe.

save you a couple hundred bucks also I dont need to adjust my stance anyway

Re: Confirmed Drop with Neuspeed, Tein, & Eibach springs on sport suspension?

    ^^ Definitely post some images.

If the Eibachs drop you about 0.5" from the sport suspension, is that even worth it? How noticable will that drop be?

I talked to tire rack about the Eibach springs on the sport shocks and they said I would be fine with their conservative drop. Just trying to decide if its worth it for another 1/2 inch.

Re: Confirmed Drop with Neuspeed, Tein, & Eibach springs on sport suspension?

a spring/shock combo is what...$700. Coilovers are only $200-300 more. They not only give you adjustability, but they ride and handle better than a sping shock combo. Just save up or find a lightly used set.

both sport and non-sport shocks will wear out quickly with lowering springs, sport shocks will just not wear out quite as fast.

Re: Confirmed Drop with Neuspeed, Tein, & Eibach springs on sport suspension?

That's the thing. If you're comparing coils to spring & shock combo, then price-wise it really is close to coils, however, the install is much less and you don't need corner balancing with springs. Most knowledgeable people from the industry I've talked to said the same thing: if you don't track your car, why spend money for coils? Coils were designed for tracking. Yes, your car will handle great, but at the same time you'll be sacrificing ride quality. From what I've read, the only exception here might be Stasis SS and PSS9's on softest damper setting (although I had PSS9's on my M3 on soft setting and wasn't too thrilled with the ride + they were well over $2000 with install and anther few hundred to take them out and put stock back on). I think the key issue here is to find springs with satisfactory drop, since there isn't any height adjustment options with them. I wouldn't worry about shocks wearing out unless the springs are used with stock, non-sport suspension.

Re: Confirmed Drop with Neuspeed, Tein, & Eibach springs on sport suspension?

Thanks for info ibiski. I got the same response from the guys at the dealership and people from tire rack, that as long as you put a conservative spring on a sport shock, you'll be fine.

I knew a couple of people would post advice to get coilovers, but thats a huge over-kill just for aesthetics. Im not arguing that they are a bad idea. They are an unbelievable improvement, but for me, not worht the extra $600-$800 that I can put towards wheels and a grille.

I would, however, like to see some images of different springs on the sport suspension if anyone has them.

your better off spending the extra couple hundred bucks and getting the co's not only that but you could probably find a lightly used set of co's for the same money as the spring/shock combo.

Re: Confirmed Drop with Neuspeed, Tein, & Eibach springs on sport suspension?

After buying the car, it had regular 16" and 2.5" gap between tire and lip on the front, on the back were almost 3". I got OEM 18" with 240,35 BF and the gap was almost the same, then I got newspeed springs and normal shocks. I paid $190.00 for the set and paid $200.00 more for the dealer to install them and service the car. The frt gap is about 1" and 1.5" back. A little bumpi but nothing significant. I had 5 people in the car and never touched the tires. Aligment did not change after the new springs (audi verified). This was done 3 months ago. Since then I got arround 10 offers to buy it. It looks awsome...... The only thing I neede to do is to re-program the settings of the rim and tire size in order to have the correct speed in the car computer. I do not have pictures at this moment but if you wait until tonight, I will post some of them. Eaven my woman likes it and she rides a 2006 525i

Anyone using the Neuspeed springs? They are listed at dropping the sport suspension a nice 0.75, which would be perfect. The probelm is turbo4s already posted that his Eibachs were actually 0.5" lower than advertised.

Anyone have personal experience with these?

dont get neuspeed..they tend to sag and its bouncy as hell.
Eibach is about an inch drop with sports suspension.
If your car is a lease just buy the springs no need for shocks since you'll need to return the car anyways

someone up there made a really nice point about coils. theres no need for them unless your tracking.

the stance eibach pros give you will be just fine

Re: Confirmed Drop with Neuspeed, Tein, & Eibach springs on sport suspension?

Between my B6 and B7, I've had two coilover systems (Koni and Bilstein), sport suspension, stock suspension, and now Koni FSD.

Coilovers are more "fiddly" and will cost more in money or aggravation. Just leveling and setting the height you want means the install is roughly 2x the effort of a spring/shock combo (unless you get lucky on your first try.) In almost all cases, coilovers ARE NOT HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE ON THE CAR. That means a new suspension reinstall anytime you want to raise or lower your height. Most are not damping adjustable on the car either, although the Bilsteins were, even with the car on the ground. Lots of coilovers develop noises as spring perches settle, loosen, etc.

Springs go on perfectly, will give a desired drop, and work pretty well on the street. The Koni FSD+Eibach set is my favorite setup so far- 90% of the handling I had with Bilstein coils, and 4x the comfort. The roads in Houston's inner loop are getting so bad, coils are really not an option for me anymore.

Eibach Pro-Kit with Koni Yellows. One thing I like about Eibach is that they have Avant specific linear rate springs.

I posted these to AudiWorld awhile back..

Bump to see if anyone else put Eicbach springs on the stock sport suspension. There is one post of it being twice the advertised drop.

Im leaning towards this set up, so anyone else with pics/feedback?

ekaufman, have you decided which setup you're going with? I'm thinking H&R, which sits a bit lower than Eibach. Just hope I won't have any rubbing issues once I decide to go with 19's.

Im pretty sure Im going with the Eibach springs because they dont drop as far as the H&R springs, and will put less stress on the stock sport shocks. Additionally, I wont have to worry as much when I move to a 19" wheel.

All you need is a slight drop to make your 19s look good. Obviously, you can go further and it still looks good, but I dont want to have to be concerned with rubbing.

I'll probably put those Eibachs on in about 3 weeks when Im back in town, and I'll definitely post images.

When are you goign to install the H&Rs?

thanks, definitely post pics! I would liket o do it soon, and I'm leaning toward H&R, but I would like to do some more research, since Avants are a bit different than sedans.

Let me know Ibiski. I have a avant to....
I agree with the coils beeing for tracking mostly. You can get almost the same setup for half the price with some good shocks and springs.

Most of the people here never go tracking with their cars. CO have become a got to have.
I am not saying I don't want COs but I am just saying I don't need them for my use.......
If I decide to lower my car is is because I think it is to high with the s-line suspension, so it will be purly cosmetic.
Just my 2 cents, 50 cents and 2pac

Re: Confirmed Drop with Neuspeed, Tein, & Eibach springs on sport suspension?

I had coilovers (Bilstein PSS9's) on my M3 and can't say that I liked the ride. Not only was it a bit harsh, but I was experiencing some strange noises, which installers (at a reputable BMW tuner shop) weren't able to pinpoint. If my A4 didn't have sports suspension, I'd probably get the Koni shocks on top of springs, but since it does, I'll stick with stock shock setup.
