What Intercooler to upgrade to after K04?

Just got my AWE K04 installed. I was wondering what opinions you guys had as far as upgrading the intercooler. Should I go with FMIC, or a SMIC like Tyrol Sport or Apikol?

FMIC. Evolution Racewerks Sport to be specific. 3" core, perfect size for a K03/K04 setup.

Question, couldn't you use the stock IC for a while if you had too without doing damage. I know it would heat soak fairly easly, but you wouldn't you get a few good runs out of it before?

I'm waiting for my RaceTec FMIC. Got an awesome deal for it! Other options that I've looked at are the DSMIC, Apikol, and ER Sport as mentioned above. There's also the Ecode FMIC or you can go custom.

Yes you could. I've been running this setup for 6 months now. Haven't been mashing around though to avoid heatsoak. Just cruising.

Actually I autox once w/ my current setup and it was depressing getting heatsoaked.

I 2nd the ER Sport one. I've been running one for a while, after an Eurocode FMIC. I think it's a great unit for the K03, K04 crowd.

oem dual side mount intercoolers is an option as well. no fabricating the front bumper, designed to fit perfect. lighter than a fmic as well. i got mine from rival motorsports.

maybe 2nd gear, but after that, you are heatsoaked! i just have 1+ and i did some logs with 75 ambient temp, by third gear i was hitting 170 IATs... after installing the racetec, they stay within 5-10 of ambient temps and the car pulls amazingly harder.. much moreso than adding the TP and exhaust

the ER sport is nice, racetec is cheaper and fits without modifying anything, no trimming the bumper either. i heard a few complaints about something on the ER sport, i dont remember what specifically but im sure they have fixed it.. it did take me a few minutes to figure out the hotside piping but it all fits fine racetec also is bigger, 380 cu in vs ER sport 351 cu in


several people have blown the plastic endcaps on the DSMIC setup when running higher boost levels... and im sure the weight difference in negligible

I'm trying to keep it as stealth as possible, but if I gotta go FMIC, I will. I'm just getting huge heatsoak with the stock setup, and the east coast humidity doesn't help much.

There is always the AWE FMIC... mine is being made up now... not sure on the dimensions but is said to fit with out trimming and good for up to thier GT28R kit and more I would think but not much..

if you put all your grillz back on, few people if any would notice you had a FMIC, the only way you can even tell on mine is the side pipes.. you can barely see them, if i wanted to be supa stealth i could just spray paint them flat black and no one would ever know i had a FMIC

Tyrolsport SMIC is awesome...The best CORE out there. If you want something stealthy..Tyrol's SMIC is way to go... Tell them you referred by Jason Kim.

Perfect with the K04.

if you have some $$ to spend and require stealth, you should do an OEM Dual Side Mount setup, WITH a tyrol drivers side upgrade. This would give you a very good solution and look utterly stock.


If you don't want to spend that much, the ER Sport also comes in black and requires minimal fitment work.

Anyone have any sites that sell the dual OEM setup?
Just to take a look. I spoke with AWE, and their front mount requires no bumper modification which would be ideal.
