225/50/16 tires to replace factory spec tires

Is it possible to run 225/50/16 tires on the factory wheels for the 1999 audi a4? I think mine are 205/55/16 right now.....about to order some replacement tires and trying to go wider and lower profile if possible! =)

They work well for me. Damn cheap at Tire Rack too. The full set cost less than a single Pilot Sport.

Smaller profile tires will make your wheels look smaller and more like a 4x4 if its not lowered. The width is fine but the gas mileage will most likely slightly decrease with wider tires.

Stock size is 205/55/16 right? 225/50/16 has the same (4.4") sidewall as stock. I'm running 225/50/16 General Exclaim UHPs and they look and ride just fine.

If you want your sidewall to actually be smaller ("lower profile") you will need larger wheels. 225/50/16 is technically a lower profile tire but not in the way you may be thinking.
