Carrera 4S or S5?

my dad is looking to get a new car, and he narrowed it down to the carrera or the s5. im trying to get him to go for the audi (obviously) but my dad is a porsche guy and is leaning towards the carrera (his previous car was the turbo cab) what can i tell him to try and sway him over towards S5. thanx

there are tons of porsche carerras on the road. while the 'S' stand out to some, most people can't tell the difference between the models. there are few S5's around and everyone notices them.

I also prefer the sound of the 8 to the 6.

lol, I think it depends on his personality. If he's a real showy guy, get the S5 because to me it really stands out in the crowd (not that the Porsche doesn't, just not as much). If he is a driver, I would get the 4S, cause I would think it handles better and is more fun to drive(Although I'm sure the S5 is too...). Then again, I haven't driven either and could be completely wrong, but that's my take on the two.

cant compare them? go look at the cars specs and come back to you obviously havent done your research. there arent any major differences except for the S5's V8 as opposed to the carrera's V6, and the MSRP.

The specs you're looking at aren't telling you the porsche is rear engine (maybe they are and you're jsut overlooking that). It makes a HUGE difference in the way the Porsche is gonna drive. These cars really dont compare.

My vote: Carrera 4S.

your right the specs i was looking at didnt tell me about the rear engine. but even after that, the porsche is just waay to played out for my taste, and the car is suppose to be his daily driver which takes points off for the porsche in my book. besides for the fact that the s5 just plain looks better.

S4 will win every time.........but as stated, you're not comparing apples with apples. If one of your considerations was the S4, you wouldn't even consider the Audi.

straight up performance, obviously there is no comparison. the fact that your dad is a "porsche guy" also doesn't bode well for you having the chance to borrow the keys and cruise around in the slick-as-sin s5 on the weekends.

911 msrp is around 90k while s5 is around 50k. if i had to choose which one to get and money was NO option, the 911 is the supreme car. however, i would never pay 100k for a 911 since that what youre looking at after only a couple of options plus taxes so if i were to buy either one and money WAS an option, id save my money and buy an S5. i could use the leftover to buy a boxster and work on that.

UMMM... First of all... Carrera 4S's are NOT V6's!!!!!!!!!!!! The 4S has a flat-six rear engine... that allows better weight distribution and more power to the wheels than most can imagine. The 1/4 mile is more important than a shitty 0-60 time that doesn't show the potential of a car throughout all of it's gears. Porsche has been developing these engines from the beginning and have it practically perfect. I admire you to consider an S5 over the Porsche 4S, but never turn down a Porsche.

P.S. Porsche will be just of a great daily driver as an S5 will.

Im with most of the other people on this board. The 4S is out of the S5's league in terms of what type of car it is. Yeah the S5 is flashy, but try saying that a year or two from now when they have been on the road. Im sure Audi will do just like they did with the S4 and retrofit every A4 with the same body kit so you have a hard time telling what is what. And porsches (especially AWD porsches) make great daily drivers. My best friend is putting 15k a year on his stage 2 997TT with no problems whatsoever.

daily driver ey? get the 997 GT3 RS should be practical w/the full cage and all saw one of these in orange the other day it was stunning haha i almost crashed i was staring at it so long
or he could get the "softer" GT2

but in all seriousness i agree w/some of the other guys on here it all depends on what knid of guy he is

if he's concerned with looks maybe the s5 would be better

but if he is a performance driver at all than there is no beating the porsche

either way he's gonna be one happy guy on delivery day

Not to mention a reasonably optioned 4S is a tad (huge understatement) more than ANY S5. If he just digs nice cars they both have their own pros/cons, such as interior space etc. Both have have 4 driven wheels, and can move. I can tell you P-cars with snows are a LOT of fun. Good choice to have to make though. Have fun. ***Louis, glad to see you got your A4, I guess you've been busy modding. Apologies for not getting back to you, not an effective sales method. Good luck with it, and if you need any feedback on mods, I've done a few so let me know (I will respond).

Hey, long time no speak. I did end up getting a black A4 titanium and have done a few mods so far. Do you still have yours or did you end up selling it?

I also have a C4S and have driven Porsches as DDs for several years with no issues. Last winter I put snows on my car for the first time and drove it in the snow...so much fun.

I've actually driven both cars (S5 as a loaner for 2 days) and C4S at Porsche driving event. Althoug the Porsche handles much better, and sounds killer...the S5 would stomp it in power, comfort and drivability. But both are super nice compared to our B7s.

C4S - 600lbs lighter than the s5, better gas mileage. Only downside is comfort and interior room.
