after owning both an a4 1.8t avant and now newly aquired S4 im not sure if i like the way the steering really stiffens up at higher speeds

my question is and i searched , is there a mod of some sort to decrease the
stiffness slightly at higher speeds? as i like the way the 1.8t a4 feels better
    at over 80 kph

i believe its called servitronic...... but it helps cause when you going 80 and you turn the wheel sharply, well you know.....also its a completely different suspension to the a4...but to help you out look for eddieman's post about disactivating it

And I thought the mod was to turn off power steering all together, for track purposes so that you have an even more direct feel in the wheel.

Why in the world would you want the steering to be soft at high speeds?
It does that for a reason not to annoy people.

I too was thinking and wondering the same thing.

Why would anyone want the steering to be lighter and less connected from the driver when traveling at higher rates of speed?

    Re: b6 S4 power steering

Yes, servotronic sucks. Unfortunately if you pull the relay you get a very oddly weigted system. It does not just go back to typical audi steering if you pull the relay. I had the 1.8t with the standard steering and it is much better to drive from a performance standpoint. Servotronic is really laggy in abrupt speed and directional transitions such as road courses. It becomes very artificial and laggy. It's a typical complaint of all of the electric speed sensitive steering systems though. Even BMW is getting dinged for it. Best thing to do is just live with it unfortunately.

    cheers! Mike
