Theres a mixed reaction on K&N versus OEM. Personlly, I didn't know any better so I spent the extra $40 and bought the K&N and put it with my Darintake.

Only downside to K&N is over-oiling after you've cleaned the filter...which in turn screws up your MAF.

Lesson: Buy OEM and replace when needed...its cheaper than spending money on a new MAF. There REALLY isn't any sort of significant "HP" gain between OEM/K&N. In fact, there really isn't any sort of significant gain with the Darin mod, just better throttle response.

    Have fun cutting.

The other downside to the K&N is the larger weave, allowing more debris past the filter, also screwing up the MAF. No gain to be had with K&N, why bother?

on the flip side, all my Blackstone Labs oil analysis showed extremely low silicates "indicating excellent air filtration" they even specifically said on one report - all while running a K&N.

but now I'm running a paper and will continue to.. so.. um.. yeah.

the only reason i use the k&n filter is because i got it for free from a friend. if i had to start from scratch i dont think it would matter to me.

    Re: darintake question

I did the intake mod a couple of weekends back and installed Amsoil's filter in there. It was only $22 and has a 100K mile warranty, it is a paper filter but you can clean it with a vacuum or 20 psi of air

I believe it or not noticed a difference from doing that and the intake mod. I cut a nice size square out of the bottom angled piece with my dremel. You can hear a bit more now. I am glad I did it.
