weird noise after exhaust done

hey guys, i got my exhaust done a couple weeks ago on my 4.2 and whenever i step on it, it makes a clicking noise. almost sounds like valves ticking on a diesel... its really annoying, i don't know if its the mufflers or what... i've got magnaflow 2.25" straight through mufflers... 2.25" piping from the cats back, and a 2,5" x-pipe. i wanted 2.5" piping but i think the exhaust stop screwed up and put in 2.25 because the inlets on the mufflers were 2.25" and magnaflow doesnt make 2.5" inlet mufflers. so anyways, i was told that that noise should have gone away from carbon build up, but it has been a while and its still there... does it make that noice because the piping is too small or is it just the mufflers? that noise really pisses me off and screwes up a really nice sounding exhaust

. and yes i put my car up on the hoist and checked for clearances, the piping doesn't hit anything so its not that, no ratting heatshieds or anything.

i'll try get a video tonight so you guys know what i'm talking about... i've searched on google and found another guy having the same problem on his 1.8T and he never ended up fixing it, hopefully i can fix mine... he described it as a card stuck in a bycicle wheel... whichi is bang on. thats excatly what mine sounds like under acceleration

man, no idea, maybe it was before, but since you put louder exhaust it became louder?

maybe... i'm gonna go to the exhaust shop on the weekend and check for leaks and stuff... hopefully i can find whats causing this

yeah exhaust leak is a bitch, i welded all my joints for good...when i need to take my exhaust i just do it in one piece, but at least no more weird sounds :)

I had the same problem and found out it was condensation right where the downpipes meet the exhaust that was leaking we tried everything from tightening the clamps to welding it shut and it didn't work....when I got downpipes it went away but the noise bugged the hell out of me too

yeah it sounds like its coming right from under me when im driving... so im guessing where the downpipes meet the cats... i'm thinking about cutting my cats out, that might solve the problem too, anyone know if the o2 sensors will throw a code? they are before the cats, so i dont see why they would.

got the same issue on my AR, turns out it is the muffler design (i too have magnaflows) that are a straight through design, results in wicked clicking at part throttle and a hairdryer noise at WOT. DRIVING ME NUTS and I was told a different style of muffler would fix it.

Its either that or I tore a baffle out of the exhaust cause I've had it on and off about a million times. The noise seems to be coming from right under me but I stood behind the car an had someone rev it - sure enough, noise was coming right out the pipes.
