'01 S4 post timing belt R&R hesitating at speed?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just had the timing belt & related hardware (h2o pump, t-stat, pulleys, etc.) replaced last week along with the aux h2o pump.

When accelerating on the freeway, it seems to hesitate as if fuel delivery was off. I don't have a chk eng light so I'm assuming no codes but I will check later today w/ my VAD if there are any.

Anyone have an idea what could be wrong or where I should start looking first?

    TIA!

Nobody knows? Not even any additional questions I can elaborate on?

Anyhow, I have an update: I finally got a check engine light with some codes for misc. misfires and a misfire in Cylinder 5 (IIRC). I guess I have to change my plugs.

So how often do I need to replace the coils?

    TIA

I'm guessing the TB was installed a tooth off and the cam timing is a little off now.

    Thanks for the reply.

I was finally able to bring it back to the shop last week and they checked the timing and it was correct. They then checked the compression because when they drove it they said it felt like a flow problem (compression, plugged cats, etc.).

He said that 2 cylinders were at 90psi and the others are 125. The plugs in these cylinders also looked bad.

I didn't have any hesitation at all before the Timing Belt change. Any idea what may have happened? Also I'm assuming it's most likely a valve or the ring issue now right?

    TIA,

    Ray

It may be possible that they messed it up first, then retimed it in the hopes that nothing had happened, but those 2 valves got slightly bent the first time

Re: '01 S4 post timing belt R&R hesitating at speed?

I too just had my timing belt replaced and at full throt it hesitates and bucks a little. I checked the engine using VAG and have no codes. The car at the time of timing belt replacement had also blown a sparkplug and destroyed the ignition coil behind it (had both fixed at once). I had all the plugs replaced and a new coil installed. The mechanic also had to repair the head because of damage to the threads. I did notice that the engine light was blinking at one point during the hesitation but I didnt see any codes to verify this. I had a chipped ECM in the car so I decided to see if it was a configuration issue and put the old stock ECM back in and it still hesitated but it was much less noticeable because of less boost?

Did you ever figure out what was wrong?!?

probly had to do with the compression on cylinder 2 being over 25% lower. Your car should be throwing codes if it's misfiring or hesitating.
