Boost Factory SMIC

Wondering who is running it and what you think? Do you have any pictures? I did search and the only big question I have concerns the windshield washer tank. I read that some versions of the a4 have a bigger tank that gets in the way. I want to know if this is true and if so what can be done to avoid/fix it? My car is a 2000.

2000 and 2001 have the smaller tank. The 99's and lower have a dual tank setup, not the single found in 99>.

I have no experience and have never seen the BF SMIC, so I can not comment.

Just do a front mount. Cheaper, will flow 10x better, and the list goes on.

fits my AEB like a glove, no washer tank interferance for me

the only thing I trimmed was the oem duct cause the BF intercooler is a bunch thicker

A fmic doesn't flow any better then this smic. Unless you're running 400+ hp. Then it will get heat soaked probally but, hell most other fmic kits will also.

I don't want this to turn into a fmic vs. smic thread. I am well aware of each and this flows just as well as most FMIC's for half the price and almost no hassle.

Thanks for the picture and info about the tanks. Anyone else with first hand experience is welcome to share.

Well then you should read the thread on the B6 forum on AW where a guy posts logs of another aftermarket SMIC. All he got was a 20F deg drop for his $500 and he still gets 172F deg IAT's with his K03. Even with the new SMIC his temps would rise from 45C to 78C during 1 pull in 3rd gear with outside temps in the 80's.

The SMIC vs FMIC debate will always be there. A good place to do some light research would be the S4 forum since several guys have replaced the dual SMICS with larger ones or with a front mount. I'm sure there are logs showing how stock and upgrade side mounts compare with that massive front mount.

Yeah but its just hard to find any data from them guys since there isn't a very big group of S4 guys running FMIC's because they tend to have over heating issues because of the under sized radiator core the car comes with stock.

I dunno how to take logs, I have vag com too

I do monitor intake air temp with my scan gauge, and it always stays within 20deg + of aimbiant or less, reaching the highest that I've seen is 120 def F last week when it was 100 deg F out


interesting thing, when I hit boost activly after cruising on the highway for a while, the intake air temps drop

Block 004 for logging IAT's.


It is normal for the temps to drop slightly when you first go WOT, but then it will climb as the temps increase as the air is compressed at the turbo.

So apparently Boost Factory has raised the price by $200 to $750 since the last time I was on their website less than a month ago. I'm not paying $750 for a side mount but thanks for the info.

hahahahah, they want 750 for the thing now. Thats reduclious, looks like they just lost the only good thing going for that SMIC which was its price. Honestly who is gonna get this when you can just get a racetec for pretty much the same price. Who wants a $750 SMIC!!!

$750 for a SMIC???? Dude, no way, they have to be crazy no?
What core do they have? Bell? how much does it cost? $300+? oh.... It's not Chinese? Who makes Bell? Really? Corky Bell huh? Oh, he knows a thing or two about turbochargers? Thermal efficiency? Hum.........
