Ok so a few weeks ago I realized that I had a minor exhaust leak. After this past weekend its def. gotten louder and more noticable when i rev it lightly it sounds like its coming from around the where the midpipes connect into the catback and up like by the downpipes can really tell but its by the downpipes. Is there anyway that you guys can tell where its coming from I know to jack up the car and look but what should I look for a crack in the exhaust check the clamps connecting. My car boost fine and it is the stock exhaust. BTW if the exhaust manifold is cracked how does it effect the car (ex. boost) Thanks

Park the car on some grass and start it up. Look up under it and find where the grass is being blown, thus finding the leak. Sounds simple but it work every time lol. Other than that you can just put it on some stands and get up under it to check things out. Look at the clamps first because theyre usually the source of leaks. Look for an obviously loose clamp or for a place where carbon is built up from the exhaust being leaked out. I highy doubt the tubing is cracked. Ive seen exhausts get smashed completely flat and still not crack. Good luck man.

    Re: exhaust leak

For the most part you are going to just have to get under it and look around to find specifically what you need. I just got a bunch of exhaust leaks fixed recently but mine were all on top of the pipes becuase of crappy welds that the previous owner did when the test pipes were put in. Since you are stock, like sCeRaXn said, more than likely it is coming from a seam where a clamp is.

    Re: exhaust leak

thanks alot guys. I will def. try the grass technique lol. If I still cant find it ill jack it up and take a look. Some one told me to put soapy water on the exhaust to detect the leak would that work to? Also I checked before agin and it seems that its the loudest when the downpipes start to bend up onto the turbos. I just have to jack it up tomm. and take a better look.

    Re: exhaust leak

with the car cold you can do 2 things.

    1) jack it up
    2) have someone rev it as you pass your hand around the pipes to feel air escaping
    3) have a spray bottle and spray water over the areas you think are leaking, it will spray back obviously if it is leaking

NOTE: will only work while cold lol.

Save yourself a little time and look at the back of the motor down onto your exhaust. It's possible your EGTs or O2s might've come loose.
