    Stinky A/C?

Any ideas why the air coming out of the A/C smells like feet for the first minute that it's on??

I JUST changed my cabin filter, thinking that would help...

    Still smells like feet.

    Re: Stinky A/C?

You might have mold. If you run your AC for a while then park the car where it's sunny and hot, the condensation on AC can get moldy.

Whenever this happens to me, I start running the heater for a few seconds right before I'm about to park. It seems to help.

    Re: Stinky A/C?

^what he said about the mold. there is stuff you can buy that you spray in the vents (not just the ones inside the car, but the one right below the wipers too where air gets pulled inside the cabin from outside) and it kills the mold. search google for like "A/C mold remover" or something like that.

You don't have to take it in. Cover your vents with paper towels. Crank your heat up as hot as it can go. Run it for ten minutes and then use the spray (you can get it at any auto parts store). I had the exact same problem. Directions are on the bottle (if I remember correctly).

    Re: Stinky A/C?

You are probably running the AC and then shutting your car off right away. If you shut off your AC for maybe 3-5 mins before you reach your destination, it won't smell.
And when I say AC I mean just the AC, leave the fan running.

run your heat on full high for a few minutes, that should kill the smell.

    Re: Stinky A/C?

Try spraying Lysol into your vents as well removing the cabin air filter and spraying in there. That worked pretty well for me remove the odor that smelled like my car's previous owner was a smoker. As a bonus the a/c seems to blow colder now, like it washed the dust of the coils.

But I would also check the carpets for moisture/mold as well.

    Re: Stinky A/C?

also check your coolant. see if you are loosing any coolant at all. you could have a small leak on your heater core which will cause mold and when you turn your AC on it will be smelly and humid like.

    Re: Stinky A/C?

Change the cabin air filter, turn the A/C up all the way WITHOUT the recycling mode with the rear windows open and then like after 15 min of that, close it all up, and spray some smell odoizer spray in your car and lock it up for an hour..

I had like 4 ppl in my explorer once and we had all come from the beach and my car stunk like ocean water! So I did the whole A/C MAX, back windows open (to create a flow) and then closed it all up and spraied this OUST(R) non scented stuff in it and like an hour later it smell like factory! Still does!
