VW Oil Spec Info?

I did a search on a bunch of forums, and found many answers about the approved oil for a B6 S4. However, I also saw a lot of conflicting information. Could someone post a link to some solid info on the VW oil specs? Anything relating specifically to the B6 S4 would be an appreciated bonus.

look in your manual. it will tell you what to use.

then look up that spec in this list.

Look in your manual and it will tell you what standard your car needs. For my B7 S4 it was VW 502 00. Then cross reference it on this list:

I appreciate the info guys. The manual was the 1st place I looked. Unfortunately my 2004 manual doesn't mention VW oil specs once. The only approved oil according to my manual is ACEA A2 or A3, which I'm sure many VW spec oils are. Personally, I've used Pentosin in my German cars for some time & I've been very happy with it. However, oil brand wasn't what I was after. I apologize if I wasn't specific enough. I was looking for some links or sites that covered VW's Oil Specifications in depth. I'd like to understand the distinction between the different specs, and which vehicles are approved for which oils and why, according to VW.
