Re: finally broke the trans/ diff

Good luck with that. I snapped the prop shaft in half in my tranny 1.5 years ago and looked for a tranny for a few months online in forums and also online through junk yards and found pretty much nothing but stuff for like $2500. Apparently the 2003 quattro 5 speed tranny is on the endanged list or something! I then decided to totally rebuild mine (new 1-4 gears, syncros and the prop shaft). Ended up costing about the same but I knew all my stuff was new instead of used in there.

At what RPM does it start to jerk? While you are accelerating or while you are just "idleing" forward?

Re: finally broke the trans/ diff

Checked your mounts lately? If first is gone, you should hear a whine, grinding, or possibly a popping noise.

Bad mounts on the other hand let the engine move around a bit and can bring on a jerky feeling when starting off in first.

Did you do this work yourself or was that cost from a auto shop?

those people must be complete idiots! I checked junk yards in Miami Florida and they all wanted $2500 range if they even had one which 90% didn't. I can' imagine they would sell a b5 for much less. You got lucky as hell!

I was gonna do it myself but the parts were crazy expensive through the Audi dealer and I got most of them for nearly half the cost such as the prop shaft I was gonna pay I think $580 and payed $369 instead if I were to have someone else do it so I said screw it and let them do it instead. The total bill was $2301.23. Labor was $240, shipping was $130.03 and packaging was $40 so 2301.23 minus that stuff equals $1891.20 in parts at a discounted rate.

You pull it's are like that. A trans is say $100 no matter what it's from, the same with a motor. Everything is a set price across the board.

I know, I checked those U pull yards too in miami, I would ask if they had one and what it would cost for me to come get it. Sounds like I was getting shafted.

probably, the place I go to doesnt keep inventory... its seriously just like a badass no help place.

You bring your own tools, you pull your own stuff, etc etc, they dont help you at all

Re: finally broke the trans/ diff

Clint got me my 2.8 trans

    1.8 5spd hanging, 2.8 5spd on ground

The best part is, if I break it due to the center diff mod I have a spare (original 1.8 5spd) trans and center diff in my garage to swap back in.

The local junkyward wanted $100 for a 1997-ish or so 2.8 trans....I got super excited, headed down there to collect my goldmine, with all my tools, and got there and forgot to ask if it was auto or manual...it was an auto
