Fastest 3.0

So today at work, there was a 2002 330Ci owner, Mustang GT owner and me (2002 B6 V6) owner chatting about car. While everybody got good points regarding their cars, we couldn't settle of which one is better. For safety reasons we didn't do dual drag runs but did individual. O-60 in stang was 6.2 and 330Ci was 6.5 (both cars with 2 persons and half gas tanks). I didn't want to go for it, since 3.Slow would just embarrass itself. While I had most luxurious interior and good look, the 3.0 could really offer anything (not even excellent fuel economy).
What times I can expect from my poor V6? Can I even hope for anything other than S/C? What are your opinions?

shouldn't that GT be faster than that (6.2)? I thought they had 300hp or something like that? You should've ran. You never know, maybe you could have beaten those times. You shouldn't be much slower than that, if at all.

Grab your g/f or a bud and head out for a couple runs yourself. And then console your ego with reminders about how much control you have in snow/ice/rain. Then ask yourself what good 0-60 is with those other cars?

FYI, with my cousin and all my work gear (including me, ~500lbs) we clocked a 0-60 of 7.7 seconds. Not bad for an obese 4-banger.

he didnt say what year. Only the new ones a 300hp and they do better then 6.2 with a manual, depending on the driver.

why do you care who is the fastest? there are cars faster than the cheap ass Mustang GT(i like the car dont get me wrong, but just Ford cuts cost on building cars), BMW is so dull in the interior.
3.0 is good, ride nice and slow.
race them in the snow if you really want to embarass them

I just cleaned my car and must say that overall I love the interior and the way it looks, the only thing that kills the deal is performance, but on the other hand, it would put me on power strip for more.
I'm really thinking of picking up 2.0 Avant but I don't think I can sell my car well.

Here is the deal with S/C
Lots of people blew their engines with it and the only person I trust with it is 3.0 King since he actually did lots of work with those pesky things. PES has bad reputation recently and King recommended lots of additional supporting work which easily makes that kit very very expensive.

Mine is fast, I ran a 15.3 stock...JK about the fast part haha. But the run did have a shitty launch, heat soaked engine from the hour drive to the track, no weight reduction and my car had heavy steelies on it at the time. I bet I could pull a 15.0 flat in it, but honestly that is not that slow, but not fast either, it is still faster than prob 70% of the cars on the road around my area at least...

yes, now to put on a S/C is expensive. you have to pay a lot for it.

or you can risk it and just put on the s/c, run the regular pulley and PES' software, but never push the car 100%.

actually not a bad idea. I believe intake and exhaust manifolds from 2.7T would bolt right up. It would require a new built bottom end and custom tuning but as far as built engine projects go, not too expensive.

I noticed your timeslip still isn't up on the database. Be proud and throw that thing up there. You're still faster than some of the K04 cars.

I emailed Mike about it and he responded saying that he was on vacation and was going to put it up when he returned, but that was over two weeks ago. Maybe I should send him a friendly reminder...

It would be easier and cheaper to get a 2.8 block and bore it out. You have to build the motor anyway.

That would be fun trying to get turbo's to fit on the 3.0 with all that space in the engine bay, or should I say lack of? Just like the 2.7's, easier to put on turbos with the engine completely out of the car... I do not think the way the old 3.0's were built they could take boost all that well. I would like to see it though

the 3.0 will be close to the 330ci performance (older BMW 2002-2006 or so) if you have a manual. As for the Mulstang I believe we can have fun with the V6 version , but stay away from the GT and up.

Keep in mind: Choose your battle wisly and go to a winding, wet or snow covered road to beat both of them big time. In a straight line the 3.0 is nothing to show off. On a turn light it makes more fun. Just floor it in the corners.

Im goin to tread jack a lil but it's a kinda related. My buddy's dad got a 2004 A4 3.0Cabriolet Fwd Automatic. He was wanting to race me but doesn't want to take it to the track.(where I like to go if im goin to race someone) My car is a 2002 Fwd manual 5sp 1.8t. My guess is he will win since im stock when it comes to go fast goodies. I was just wondering what the outcome would be since his car should be heavier.

2.8 block isn't built for boost either.

the right way to do it is use a 2.7t block. give it a slight overbore. and put a 3.0l crank in it. then slap on 2.8 heads/cams/intake manifold and some GT's.. then you have 800awhp potential
