Oil pressure light.

Ok, The light has been coming on for about 5 second durations today and yesterday. A total of 3 times.

Any ideas what could be clogged/ broken?

Everything runs great actually. It's got 109k miles on it. I'm sure something is about to let loose. I'll try to get it on video when I does.

i had that light come on, park it and have it towed to the dealership if u have warranty, cus its something major, mine sat at the dealership for 3 weeks tryin to fight for a motor, in the end they just did all my oil gaskets and hoses and what not, cleaned it out.. but a couple days ago my engine light came on.. hoping to get a new engine :) ... but like i said.. park it and tow it.. if its engine sludge thats warrantied.. dont fuk it up urself..

I'm at 109k miles. I doubt i'm under any sludge warranty anymore. Plus, everytime I change my oil I remove the level sensor and have a look around in there. Everything has looked great everytime!

Thats not good. Search here on Forums... It might be sludge problems... Do u change your oil regularly???

i believe they upped the sludge warranty to 8 years, call your dealer. trust me dont blow it up yourself.

Well I'm fucked. I don't document oil changes. Didn't figure I needed to. Guess it's because my Grand Prix never gave me any issues.

no, not faulty, mine came and went, not more then 2seconds at a time.... they basically said i was runing the engine/tubro with no lubricant.

If nothing else works, and can't change out the whole motor, you could try dropiing the oil pan and replacing the oil pump and pickup tube. Follow up with a couple of treatments with Auto-RX, which some people have had luck with for un-sludging engines (see their website and also bobistheoilguy.com). It's not an instant fix like Seafoam but will do a more thorough job of cleaning the internals of a badly sludged engine, over a few thousand miles.

See...I've done the Seafoam treatments and all that jazz. Oil is full. Just changed the oil and everything using Mobile 1 0w-30 Full synthetic.

One question....it's related but don't ask how.

Do oil filters for DIESEL engines flow differently than GAS engines? If so then...umm....yeah. I know what the deal is.

Check Oil Level, and make sure it is not the oil pressure symbol, the oil pressure symbol can be mastaken for the oil level symbol. you can see the diffrence in the owners manual.

i had a similar problem just droped the oil pan and cleaned around the oil pump pick up line and blew it out with compressed air and all was well.

also lift the valve cover and look for sluge it will take about 15min to take it off.

I've had both lights before and this isn't low level. I've checked the level many many times to rule that out.

The route I'm taking right off the bat is....

Drop oil pan
Replace pick-up
Clean and Inspect
Replace pan w/ new gasket
Remove Valve cover
Clean and inspect
Clean sealing surfaces
Replace valve cover w/ new gasket
Fill with Mobil 1 0W-30 Syn with Seafoam and new filter
Drive 500 miles
Change oil and filter

I read on a passat forum that it's been done before and it brought back an engine that was on the edge of sludge destruction. Hopefully this will work out, if not....fuck it..

blow out the pick up line first you most likely dont need a new one. dont spend unless you need to. also check the chain tensioner becuase when running low oil pressure the tensioner spring gets to hot and soft and you will have to replace it. On ebay they go for 300 dollars but you will know if you need one becuase the chain makes a bag noise. Do not go to the dealer ship becuase the will over charge with out a dought in my mind. they tried to charge me 900 plus for the same chain tensioner i found for 300 new.

also try sea foam.

I have done seafoam and I will do it again once I put it all back together.

yea the cam chain tensioner it is still good i assume but if you where running low oil preesure just keep an ear out for the noise becuase they usally go bad after running low oil pressure.

On your 2.0L? How many miles are on that motor which required you to clean out the oil pump pick-up? Did you get your fuel pump yet?

about 8 to 10,000 but when we removed the pick up tube and filter it was all very clean so we think it may have been some gunk from something whitch may have been slowing down the flow but once we blew out the line everthing was OK.

PS i have the fuel pump in and i never did the write up becuase on of a scale of 1 to 10 the instalation was a 2.

My guess is Seafoam if it's $7.50.

Did you ever measure the actual oil pressure with a mechanical guage?

Never measured it with an actual gauge.

New oil filter of a different brand actually.

Had - Napa filter w/ 6 holes

Now - Hardings filter w/ 8 holes

200 miles light free. Woop!

Not to be a pessimist but if I were in your shoes, I'd be pulling the VC and possibly the oil pan to check the status of sludge buildup. Id also get a mechanical reading, just to have as a baseline.

Thats just me though. Im OCD. Glad to hear its running again. I use the Meyle/Mann/Mahle oversize OEM that you get from ECS for ~$5 or Mobil 1 filters. Sometimes Advance Auto Parts has a sale for 5 quarts of M1 and you get a free M1 filter = $26 for a complete oil change with M1 0w-40. Quite the deal!
