Euro RS4 Steering Vs. Stock RS4 Steering Wheel

Looking to either install My Euro RS4 steering wheel in the RS4 or sell it. Trouble is, if I install the wheel, I lose some of the radio and BT functions that are on the steering wheel. It's really convenient but I really miss the Euro wheel.

Chime in with what you would do if you were in my shoes. Jokes, banter, bagging all welcome. It better be funny though.

This is the wheel when it was in my old B6 S4. It's now in my closet.

I never understood why the euro wheel has so much aluminum on it. It doesn't really match much in the interior, besides the pedals and shift knob. I think it only goes with cars that have the aluminum beltline trim. Not to mention the loss of radio controls like you already mentioned. I use those everyday, so I can't imagine losing them.

Just sell it and get a TT steering wheel. It has the flat button and all the other functions from the stock wheel but no aluminum bottom.

Here's the kicker. The aluminum stuff on the steering wheel isn't even aluminum. It's silver plastic. It kinda feels like a toy steering wheel when you grab the plastic.

It isn't on the car because I don't want to lose the functions either.

Euro steering wheel hands down. I had the same trepidation, but the euro one is thicker and looks so damn sexy i just can't go back to the US one. Plus, the buttons are useful for at least a few things including the S button. It's just not the same hitting the S button on the dashboard, doing it on the steering wheel is like...money...

There we go, first hand experience. The "S" button on the steering wheel is awesome, however I am getting a non-valved milltek exhaust and well, hitting the "S" buton isn't going to be the same after it's installed.

Canuck, I'm not seeing the screws to remove the stock wheel. How do I get to them?

So you would keep some functions? What functionality would you lose specifically if you went euro? I'm not familiar with the differences in the wiring harnesses between the US and Euro B7 multi wheels, but at least on the B6 a physical swap is easy. If the wiring harness is plug and play why don't you just swap them and see how you like it?

It's plug and play and vag. Good ides, I think I will do a trial run with it. I'll post when it's on. Stocker, won't be available for sale till I make a final decision on what wheel to keep.

here's where I come in about the RS6 wheel....... JUST LOOK AT IT!! You can always remove the paddles and cover the holes or just keep the paddles and trick people! I love the TT wheel, but it's not any thicker than the garden hose that we have now! My wife's wheel in her X5 4.8is is twice as thick as the NA RS4 wheel!!

Can you elaborate on exactly what each button will do for me?

The +/- buttons on the right side will scroll you through the trip computer on the DIS. The SET button will reset the readings and they are all involved in the lap timer. I use them mostly for zero-ing the avg speed so i can hit cruise in a 50 or 60 zone and i know exactly how fast i'm going as the computer reads 5% lower than the speedometer. Useful on long trips also for cruising at the exact speed you want. I lost all phone/volume/bluetooth functions and that sucks but in the end, i wouldn't go back so there you have it. It's worth the switch IMO.

If you arent losing too much functions on the Euro wheel I would switch it over in a heartbeat. The functions that Canuck stated are well enough to be sacraficed. The Euro wheel looks pure sex

its a super simple install... unplug battery, remove the caps on the back of the wheel by turning it 90 degrees to the right then to the left. unscrew the 2 torx screws behind the caps, unplug and remove the airbag, and then using a triple square unscrew the wheel fastener... then just reverse to reinstall vag it up and ur good to go... as far as my opinion on the wheel goes... id never go back to the NA wheel, it felt like a boat steering wheel in comparison. plus it makes the car feel sportier

I agree the Euro wheel looks great, but like you said, the flat-bottom plastic feels and sounds cheep and hollow when you grip it. Damn...tough choice for me because either wheel would be an upgrade in my car. I still vote Euro. Na, save all the hassle and just sell it to me already.

I'm so torn with not wanting to lose the Bt and radio functions. The new handsfree cell phone law goes into affect on July 1st and I think that the steering wheel buttons are going to come in handy.

can't you still use the functions through the unit though?... youre losing only the controls right?

well, if this helps you any then i'm glad..... I use my bluetooth and radio controls on the steering wheel every time I drive my car. I remembered when I went to the screen to change a song or whatever, I took my eyes off the road. I did that once and I hit a pot hole and bent a wheel. Luckily, I purchased Audi's road hazard warranty and received a new wheel to replace the bent one. It may be worse for me since I have ADD, but every time I play with the nav, my eyes are taken off the road....
