From your two choices, I would opt for the resonated, non-valved. Here's why.
1. You mention that price is a concern right now. The resonators only add $200 to the price of the exhaust. Even the non-resonated/valved, will run you $2600 vs. $1800 for the resonated/non-valved.
2. Drone. I have never heard an aftermarket non-resonated exhaust that didn't drone and this is no exception. Under 2000rpms, under a heavy throttle, it will drone and it is loud and unpleasant. Also, on long trips, while not loud, there is definitely a continuous hum without resonators.
3. The difference in sound on the Milltek between valves open and valves shut is definitely more than on the stock system, but it no where near the difference between resonated/non-resonated.
4. My overall opinion is that while non-resonated can give you a more thrilling sound under hard driving conditions, to live it with it every day is a different story. People who have bought non-res will obviously try to justify their purchase, but even the people at Milltek themselves do not feel it is an appropriate sound for the RS4. They build it because it is easy to do so, and having more options in the market with no added cost is a desirable for any company.
The resonated system still sounds aggressive, still has the nice V8 gurgles and burbles, but the hard edge has been taken off and it sounds a bit more upscale and exotic as a result.
I had a custom Milltek exhaust built for myself with quad tips. i opted for the full valved and resonated and I'm glad I did. In my mind, it leaves the system "complete". Leaving the neighborhood at 6:30 am, even resonated is a bit too loud in the bass frequencies with the valves open.
Sill, out of your two choices, I would go with resonated, non-valved.
