    $500 - $600 Catback Exhaust Interest?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I talked to a friend who works for a parts manufacturer and he said he could hook us up with a stainless steel catback exhaust for around $500 to $600 if there was enough interest for the B6 6mt guys but I wasn't sure if something like that would be in demand.

From what I searched I couldn't really find anything below $900 for an equivalent catback so I figured there might be some interest. Let me know if anyones interested!

    Re: $500 - $600 Catback Exhaust Interest?

I for one would be interested (5spd trans). The only options in that price range (well slightly higher) would be borla/magnaflow and they don't include the down pipe. Sound and Performance (pipe size) are important factors and IMO are the reasons people save up to buy those $1000+ systems.

My $.02 on this: When/if this happens we'll def need some more specs on pipe/downpipe size and muffler choice (wouldn't hurt having them to attract interest). Pictures and sound clips are always nice and will help sell the exhaust for it self, but I realize these won't be avaliable right off. and the bottom line is for that price range there isn't anything close which IMO will attract potential buyers.

Each engine / platform / transmission / drivetrain will be different. Unfortanuetly for our cars there is no "Universal" exhaust system. You have a B7 for example, different already. Also quattro will make the exhaust design be different from lets say a FWD.
    I heart wagons.

I'm aware there are many different variations for exhaust and this exhaust was meant for a manual b6 with quattro. Do 5 speed manual b6's exist?

I've got a 5sp manual B6, and I'd be interested in a better flowing but not noisy exhaust (close to stock noise levels).

So the exhaust fitment on 5 speeds are different or the same as 6 spds? From the exhaust choices I've seen none of them really state 5 or 6 speed, they only options are fwd and awd.

    Re: $500 - $600 Catback Exhaust Interest?

I believe the down pipe mounting point is slightly different between the 5-spd and 6-spd trans, but a 6spd exhaust can be easily modified to fit a 5-spd and vice-versa.

Any idea if this is a go?
I've got an exhaust leak and either I patch it or it's a damn good excuse to get a new exhaust ...and SOON.

Even though I'm a manual trans guy...it would be nice to see a auto trans down pipe option...as the only one I'm aware of currently is the Techtonics Tuning one for the around $250 (besides custom)...just for the downpipe.

...and BTW there's far more B6 5spd's than 6-spds IMO (as the 5 spd was standard from 2002-2004.5 and the 6 spd was only from 2004.5-2005.5).

I have one of those rare 5 speeds as well...

FYI the 5 and 6 speed transmissions are the same. And Im semi sure the B6 exhaust fits the B7

    Re: $500 - $600 Catback Exhaust Interest?

that would be really not worth it.
The guy making this system for you is either very incompetent or really doesn't like making money.

With the price of raw materials (read, CHROMIUM) on the rise, I can't fathom how it is possible to do a full stainless exhaust for that price, including DP, bolts, and gaskets.

The only way i can see to get around this is to use crude metal and have it stainless plated. Though the problem with that is eventually it will rust from the inside out, and cause exhaust leaks. This is what happened to Steve Millen products back 8-10 years.

These are some of the questions you want to ask when you are considering this endeavor.

    Good luck
