    Any difference in 1998-2000 1.8t engine to a 2001 1.8t?

    Just wondering if there is any differences in 2001 1.8t engine as apposed to the 1998-2000 1.8t. Was planning on picking up a 2001 a4 with a blown engine (probably due to oil sludging) and was going to install a rebuilt engine. Ebay lists one, but only for 98-00. Is there any differences?

    Yes... Quite a few... Search for em... Just to list a few. Wideband O2, DBW, SAI, MAP sensors, the list goes on...

    96 or 97-2000 has a different block than 2001.

    Get a motor from a 2001 car and MAKE SURE the donor car had the same type of transmission as you, meaning, if you have a manual, donor car MUST HAVE BEEN manual.

    1996-2000 AEB - belt driven oil pump, external water pump, large port
    2000 ATW - belt driven oil pump, external water pump, small port
    2001 AWM SAI - gear driven oil pump, internal oil pump, small port
