    c/v /axle question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
To start I just replaced the cv boot. Put it all back together and there is clunking. Jack it up and rotate in reverse and it rotates perfect. Rotate it in the drive position and there is a slight clunk it makes one a revolution. Did I not install the cv boot correctly? I know it's not an issue of the splines. If it was it wouldn't allow me to assemble it back together. Unless I used blunt force to.

    Any help is appreciated.

Were you able to put it back together or do I need to replace the joint now?

Just out of curousity. How would the bearings fall out that are held in by a ring?

No clue but it happened when i did lower control arms so some force were put on... probably the ring popped out of the grove.

    Re: c/v /axle question

Another symptom is that the axle assemblies (both sides) spin freely when the rear is lifted. When it is lowered and starts to roll it grinds violently.

    Re: c/v /axle question

So I go to take the cv back off and and when I insert the hub bolt to tighten done to pop the cv joint. The axle just spins with it in gear and the other rear tire still on the ground. Did something else happen to cause this?

    Re: c/v /axle question

Well it wasn't the bearings that fell out. Somehow the inner cv disconnected from the diff. How that happened? I have no clue. Now I'm trying to source a 12 pt torx to remove the damn thing.

    Re: c/v /axle question

The inner joint was what i was talking about. I think you will find the balls for the inner not all in place.
